The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary

Columbia University’s Wellness Center is home to Columbia’s Community Health Worker (CHW) Training Institute called ‘InTOuCH.’ This program recruits trusted members of churches from New York City to complete an 8-week, certified CHW training curriculum. Graduates from the program or its condensed TRIUMPH specific version are enlisted to support the TRIUMPH research team in increasing access to anxiety and depression screening among African American church and community members.

The CHW will work directly with the Columbia University Irving Medical Center research team to organize and implement screening events at their assigned church and within the community to offer anxiety and depression screening, linkages to care, and brief counseling to eligible participants.

Responsibilities

  • Complete Orientation and TRIUMPH-specific or InTouch training
  • Participate in Focus Groups at the end of the study.
  • Identify and recruit eligible church congregants and community members to participate in the study.
  • Complete study-specific booster training sessions
  • Support the Clinical Assessors and project coordinator in making follow-up phone calls to eligible participants to schedule baseline, 3-month, and 6-month assessments.
  • Conduct eligibility screening and consenting (of eligible participants) on paper and electronically via laptop, tablet, or other devices.
  • Deliver Enhanced Usual Care or SBIRT counseling sessions.
  • Work closely with church leaders and community-based organizations to organize and host community kick-off and screening events.
  • Complete pre- and post-training knowledge and self-efficacy measures
  • Support the research team in study implementation, data collection, and follow-ups.
  • Work closely with the program coordinator and leadership team in the implementation of the study
  • Report to the program coordinator on a regular basis
  • Provide evidence-based anxiety and depression resources and referrals to clinical providers.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree. A minimum of two (2) years of related work experience or Graduate of Columbia’s certified CHW Training Institute called ‘InTOuCH’ or TRIUMPH specific training program.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiar with Institutional Review Board protocols, databases, etc.
  • Be in good standing with ZMBBI Wellness Center leaders as a Community Health Worker
  • Experience developing, distributing, and evaluating research studies
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple diverse projects
  • Be an active member of a local church in West or Central Harlem
  • Knowledge of health disparities research
  • Conducted at least one prior church-based health screening event
  • Flexibility in hours (i.e., will work some evenings and at least 1 Saturday / month)
  • Graduate of Columbia’s certified CHW Training Institute called ‘InTOuCH’
  • Strong communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word
