What you will do
The Oracle Transportation Management (OTM) system is run and maintained by the Transportation Analyst/Planner position; this OTM role is key within the Johnson Controls Transportation Center of Excellence (CoE) for North America, supporting multiple business units with $330m of freight spend currently in scope with the ultimate goal of onboarding all $480m of freight spend into the system. The CoE transportation planning team is responsible for optimizing inbound and outbound shipments across multiple modes for domestic and international shipments using the OTM transportation management system platform to deliver a seamless logistics experience to internal and external customers.
The Transportation Planner is responsible for improving overall transportation effectiveness through daily planning, troubleshooting, analysis, and reporting out to the business owners.
How you will do it
- Utilizes freight bill data and makes corrections to account code and allocations that cause some distortion to our freight records or cost allocations.
- Responsible for carrier updates (rates, contacts, etc.), customer requirements (location rules), route planning and overall system maintenance within OTM.
- Evaluates and/or prepares relevant cost comparisons and supplier performance reports to support strategic plans.
- Plan, schedule and follow up to ensure the timely delivery of the company's freight to the North American region using Oracle Transportation Management System (OTM).
- Learns and applies knowledge and guidance regarding import/export laws, customs and duties, and related regulations such as NAFTA and HazMat.
- Explore systemic solutions OTM can offer and facilitate user acceptance and end to end testing
- Other duties as assigned, such as transportation compliance audits, KPI reporting, and project support.
- Provides frequent, close collaboration with third party service providers of transportation services including, freight forwarding, export packaging, customs, security and export controls.
- Analyze freight data to determine the most cost-effective method to transport product by identifying opportunities to create milkruns, multi-stop deliveries, LTL volume shipments and order/shipment consolidations.
- Validate truckload shipments meet utilization requirements, tender ’clean’ shipments and monitor shipment status from tender to final delivery.
- Identify the root cause of order/shipment integration issues and develop alternative solutions for current and future purposes.
- Remains abreast of logistics best practices and be proactive in exploring application to our business.
- Develop core understanding of the business units that employ OTM by learning their system process flows, key contacts, product mix and freight spend mix by mode/lane to become a logistics subject matter expert for JCI.
- Assists in monitoring and managing transportation expense budget, including third party services and consulting fees. Proposes and directs ongoing cost reduction and improvement projects and maintain development status in the Procurement-Financial Project Tracker.
- Researches and evaluates alternative processes and systems to assess their benefit and applicability to current logistics practices and business needs within the company.
- Monitors carrier performance and develops meaningful metrics for process and service improvement opportunities.
- Understand daily capacity demand and pro-actively communicate to appropriate leadership
- Perform troubleshooting and necessary updates to resolve data integration issues between PBU OTM, EDI, ERP, & WMS systems.
- Provide Logistics support by efficiently communicating shipment details between plants, suppliers, customers and carriers for cost effective on-time deliveries for all modes.
- Consults and teaches policy and procedures for logistics activities for use by plants, suppliers and distribution centers. Helps maintains SOPs, guidelines and supporting logistics information for users.
- Works closely with the Logistics Procurement team to provide research and cost modeling for negotiating rates with carriers to fully use the resources and leverage of JCI spend across the other business divisions and, if possible, regions.
What we look for
- Thorough knowledge of the freight industry, including TL, LTL, Ocean, and parcel
- Bachelor’s Degree in supply chain management, transportation, logistics, business, or related field preferred; relevant work experience also considered.
- Minimum of 3 years of logistics analyst or planning experience in a manufacturing or procurement environment.
- Good verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills in persuasion, negotiation, conflict resolution and teamwork.
- Ability to plan, think ahead, and prepare action plans to achieve results
- Entry level knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC) rules and regulations.
- 1-2years’ experience with Oracle Transportation Management and ERPs (JDE-SAP)
