Technical Design Assistant, Handbags

Responsibilities:

  • Create, update, and maintain master silhouette templates utilized across seasons.
  • Partner with Product Development teams to identify and resolve technical issues, provide options to meet margin targets while preserving design intent. Ensure all comments are clearly communicated to appropriate teams and partner to meet shared goals.
  • Create full scale sketches as needed for design review. Examples include detailed specs, proportions, artwork layouts and placements, embossing scales and layouts, and embellishment placements.
  • Create CADs for color options, color blocking, and platform animations.
  • Create full scale technical sketches and specs to build cohesive collections.
  • Contribute insight into new silhouette development , providing technical callouts while reviewing the line to ensure consistancy in design language.
  • Maintain all elements of a Design Card through development process and commercialization including detailed sketches of all views, dimensions, proportions, materials placement, hardware and thread lists. Maintain clarity of information througought the process.
  • Review samples for corrections including aesthetics, dimensions, hand feel, functionality and workmanship.
  • Responsible for delivering all design cards for handoff milestones.
  • Provide options, mock ups, and revisions as needed during the development process.
  • Maintain integrity of the product by applying established standards, details, and workmanship callouts.
  • Own design card review on behalf of Design for technical accuracy, suggest options to achieve aesthetic intent and ensure design elements are consistent across collections.
  • Key communicator of technical information to achieve design intent.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced design environment.
  • Leathergoods product construction and engineering knowledge required. Broad knowledge of industry construction standards and manufacturing, including materials. (hardware, leather, fabric)
  • Keen attention to detail as it pertains to individual products and the line as a whole.
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Illustrator; ability to CAD in fast paced environment.
  • Thorough understanding of the design & development process from inception through production; experience working with global factories a plus.
  • 0-2 years work experience in technical design with focus on handbags/leathergoods.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent problem solving abilities, resourcefulness, and organizational skills. Ability to take initiative on projects and design solutions.
