JOB DESCRIPTION

As a Design Assistant at DATE Interiors, you will work closely with the Principal Designer (Molly) and contribute to ongoing residential and commercial projects, helping to manage all aspects of the design development process from concept and schematic design through installment. You will have the opportunity to help create design concepts with the Principal and work directly with clients, architects, contractors, vendors, and workrooms throughout all phases of the project. This is a great way to gain a variety of experience and learn many aspects of the interior design business. The ideal candidate is a positive, self-motivated, detailed-oriented and solutions-based person with great written and verbal communication skills who enjoys working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. A desire to grow as a key contributing member of the team is extremely important, since this role has the potential to expand to full-time, as well as to graduate to a Junior Designer position.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support projects across all phases of design from concept and schematic design through installment, including project management and administration, vendor management and communication, site visits, organization of project samples and sample library, and project installations
• Contribute to the overall design process, with focus on visual research, mood board creation, material sourcing and specification, custom furniture design, and presentation development (graphic, visual and technical), while adhering to fast-paced project timelines
• Construct floor and furniture plans, elevations and scaled sketches in alignment with architectural plans
• Collaborate with the Principal Designer, architects, contractors, sub-contractors, fabricators, artisans, vendors, workrooms and developers across multiple projects; attend onsite meetings to review progress and schedule, and record notable updates

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Experience balancing design sensitivity and technical knowledge with focus on overseeing design decisions and leveraging project management skills, including the ability to work independently, proactively anticipate and address team and project needs, and pivot quickly
• A degree in Interior Design or related field from an accredited school, or 3+ years of design school under your belt
• Working knowledge of the full design process including Concept, Schematic, Design Development, Construction Documentation, Construction Administration, Procurement, and Installation
• Proficiency in AutoCad, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), a rendering program and Google Workspace; Canva experience is preferred
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to adapt to the daily needs and ever-changing schedule of the design team
