A Brief Overview
The Principal Tax Accountant works closely with the Director of Tax in assisting with the management and/or preparation of the in-house corporate tax compliance and tax accounting functions of a multistate and multinational affiliated group of corporations.

What you will do

  • Oversee indirect tax filing process such as property, sales and use tax.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments.
  • Perform research on complex tax issues.
  • As Analyze, compile and review information to enable timely and accurate responses to Federal and State notices and audit requests.
  • Oversee monthly GL account analyses including reconciling income tax, property and sales tax accounts.
  • Manage, prepare and/or review consolidated federal, multi-state separate and unitary, and local corporate tax returns, related workpapers, extensions and estimated payments accurately and in accordance with internal deadlines.
  • Assist in the development of staff accountants.
  • Ensure compliance with SOX controls.
  • Respond to internal and external customers in a timely and effective manner.
  • Maintain tax calendar encompassing all tax filings (forms, payments, returns, etc.) and ensure timely and accurate compliance with all tax deadlines.
  • Assist in preparation of annual corporate income tax provision in accordance with ASC 740 including calculation of book/tax adjustments.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience, advanced degree preferred.

Experience Qualifications

  • Typically, 12+ years of relevant tax experience.

Skills and Abilities

  • A demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards and a diverse workplace.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word).
  • Ability to perform tax research and effectively communicate (written and verbal) income tax accounting and compliance issues.
  • General knowledge of GAAP/SOX and an understanding of internal accounting controls.
  • Experience with RIA Checkpoint, OneSource Income Tax, OneSource Tax Provision, and/or Oracle ERP a plus.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong understanding of federal and multi-state corporate income taxation. Understanding of international corporate taxation, a plus.
  • Strong understanding of tax principles in addition to accounting and business procedures.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.

The salary range for this role is $112,700 to $222,240. The candidate’s final salary offer will be based on the candidate’s skills, education, work location and experience.

A candidate’s compensation may also include bonuses consistent with TriNet’s corporate bonus plan.
