This position is responsible for developing short to medium (0-to-2-year time horizon) for the East Gas and Power trading desk that will ultimately be used as a key input for their daily trading activity.

The successful candidate will be responsible for generating Supply/Demand/Infrastructure views and extracting the essential components that ultimately influence prices. This role primarily supports our trading side of the business with analysis developed from a deep understanding of the key supply/demand/infrastructure drivers. This position must build credibility with internal customers so that such foresight can be translated into commercial gain primarily on the trading side of the business. The emphasis is on developing both qualitatively and quantitatively advantaged capabilities, supported as appropriate by models, tools and techniques that yield high quality insight. Collaborating with peers in the Fundamentals team to build scalability in this respect is essential.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Consolidate regional gas market view and other observations into commercially actionable insights delivered both reactively and proactively to Natural Gas and Power traders.
  • Maintain positive relationship with external consultants and leverage information and analysis that they provide to maximize productivity in supporting Shell Energy North America.
  • Develop own view of regional natural gas supply/demand/infrastructure view – be able to logically, clearly, and as necessary, provocatively articulate this view to the customer base. Identify and evaluate the implications of major trends and developments in the East Region gas market.
  • Develop strong relationships with SENA gas/power traders.
  • Expand contacts, both internally and externally, to improve the quality and timeliness of intelligence.
  • Generate Gas Supply forecast by basin that will be used by all gas analysts within the Fundamentals team.
  • Develop tools and models to enhance the quality and accuracy of price.

Work location of Houston, Texas.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated understanding of natural gas supply fundamentals
  • BA, MBA or PhD in Engineering/Mathematics/Economics/Econometrics/Business/Finance/Geology and/or equivalent relevant experience
  • 5+ years of experience of Gas Supply/Demand/Infrastructure Fundamentals work
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relations at multiple levels and across teams
  • Must be able to develop Fundamental East Region views based on quantitative analysis that will be translated into profitable trades
  • 5+ years of natural gas supply/demand modelling experience
  • Proven experience working on dynamic analytical teams focused on rapid and accurate creation of models, views, and custom applications
  • Comfort level with technology-based research given the ability to manage multiple high priority tasks preferred
  • Proficiency with typical Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to filter multiple perspectives for commercially actionable intelligence
  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, both written and oral
