Role Description

We are seeking an experienced head of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) who will be a key member of the Finance team and an important business partner across all aspects of the organization. The focus of this position is managing the planning process and serving as business partner across the organization. This position works across the research and program teams to translate their goals into budgets and forecasts and support decision making within the program teams. At the company level, the head of FP&A works closely with the CEO and leadership team (LT) to summarize the financial needs of the organization both in the short and long term. The head of FP&A is a strategic partner with the CEO, VP Finance and LT on program prioritization, resource allocation, time to value inflection points and other critical decision support analytics. Reporting to the VP & Head of Finance, this position will continue to build and lead the FP&A function for Maze. The team is anticipated to grow in coming years, and we plan to expand with a Manager FP&A role to be opened in Fall 2023. This is a hybrid role in the office 2-3 days per week.

Your Impact Includes

• Preparing regular financial analysis reports, presenting findings to senior leadership, and aiding in preparation of slides for Board Meetings
• Providing strategic financial advice to project teams by partnering to create development plans, scenario modeling, cost tradeoffs, key vendor selections, and other decision support analyses
• Develop and maintain a corporate dashboard to track performance toward key corporate, program and other objectives and OKRs
• System administrator and internal owner over Anaplan (Financial Planning tool)
• Collaborating regularly with Accounting team to ensure alignment between budget and actuals, assisting in the accrual process, reviewing coding, and variance reporting
• Continue building internal processes and structure for budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning, including variance reporting to department heads
• Review contracts in Coupa so to ensure purchase requests are in alignment with the budget.
• On an as needed basis, participate on high-priority valuation or corporate development projects, including analyses supporting clinical program investment decisions. Projects may also include analyses for M&A and licensing decisions.

Qualifications

• Detail oriented, solution driven with excellent written and verbal communication, analytical, and presentation skills
• Strategic thinker with excellent communication skills and ability to translate science and strategy to finance and numbers.
• Ability to work within and meet all deadlines while executing on multiple deliverables
• Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting. MBA or CPA highly preferred
• Proven experience providing data analysis and decision support to the entire organization with a business partner mindset
• Demonstrated experience in a public company setting developing forecasting models, ad hoc analytical modeling, and experience with financial planning systems
• Advanced understanding of Excel and PowerPoint, as well NetSuite (ERP), Coupa (Procure to Pay) and Anaplan (or other FP&A tools) required
• A service oriented and collaboration focused disposition with the desire to improve efficiency and effectiveness through process improvements
• An innate ability to build relationships that will enable you to understand your customer’s need and communicate important financial guidelines in a clear manner
• 10 years minimum in a finance role in life sciences and at least 4 years in an FP&A centered role; pre-clinical research experience strongly preferred

The expected salary range for this role for employees located in the San Francisco Bay Area is $263,000 - $280,000. Additionally, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus.

Maze performs position-based compensation benchmarking to industry market data to ensure we pay competitive wages. Determination of starting salary will depend upon a variety of job-related factors, which may include professional experience, skills and job location. The expected salary range for this role may be modified in the future.
