Social Work Specialist I - Psychotherapy - Department Of Psychiatry

The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Iowa is seeking a part-time Social Work Specialist (LISW) to join an amazing team in pursuit of the advancement and scientific efforts in the field of psychotherapy. This position will help prepare study participants engaging in psychotherapy before and after drug therapy administration. Using specialized social work therapy and services, the Social Work Specialist will guide and affirm participants on the day of the drug experience, and finally, help process and integrate their experience during the psychotherapy sessions post drug administration.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide information on social work and social service priorities
• Serve as an expert consultant on Psychotherapy and drug administration
• Participate in determining research priorities and planning programs of research.
• Demonstrates conceptual and technical knowledge.
• Demonstrates ability to apply theoretical knowledge.
• Maintain liaison with internal and external community relations which include sponsoring agencies, organizations, as well as with other research and educational institutions.
• Train local staff and external collaborators in all aspects of Psychotherapy and drug administration
• Consult, initiate and participate in social work research.
• Attend and participate in training, meetings, conferences, and workshops.
• Completes further education related to job/assignment.
• Assistant with the preparation of grant proposals.
• Demonstrates knowledge of psychedelic assisted psychotherapy

Percent of Time: part-time, 50%

Education Required

Master’s degree in Social Work

Certifications

Must be Iowa licensed as an Independent Social Worker (LISW) by time of hire.

Required Qualification

3-5 years of specialized social work experience.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Demonstrated experience collaborating as part of multi-disciplinary care teams, including ability to effect change and resolve recalcitrant problems.

Desirable Qualifications

Demonstrated leadership skills including critical thinking, independent decision-making, time management, and program development activities.

Ability to coordinate complex planning efforts involving multiple disciplines, departments, and community resources.

Experience working with adult and adolescent patients and their families, providing counseling and crisis intervention.

Additional graduate education and/or continuing education related to advanced Social Work practice and skills.

Experience working with patients who have substance use and/or mental health disorders.

Solid understanding of community resources available for a variety of medical and psychiatric conditions including knowledge and experience with levels of care, federal and state regulations, and financial resources.

Eligibility for professional certification (CADC, IADC, IAADC) provided through the Iowa Board of Certification is highly desirable (for those working with Chemical Dependency).

Supervision

Supervision is received from the Chair of the Department and functionally from the Research Scientist.
