Summary
Use appropriate teaching methods to facilitate student learning for Associate in Human Services, Bachelor of Social Work, and Master of Social Work courses.

Duties
  • Teaches synchronous or asynchronous courses using current technology applicable to the discipline which may include asynchronous and/or video-conferenced courses as needed.
  • Collaborates with the School of Social Work faculty on course design and appropriately challenging coursework, as requested, to help students realize their full potential as learners.
  • Ensures course content, activities, and assignments are set up, published, delivered, and facilitated through the learning management system per established expectations. Course content includes, but is not limited to, syllabus, course policies, video lectures, assignments and instructions, grading rubrics, etc.
  • Meets all designated course instruction guidelines, including but not limited to, posting weekly announcements with relevant information, monitoring/participating in discussions, grading student coursework within established School of Social Work grading policy guidelines, providing students timely and specific feedback, responding to student inquiries within 24 hours, maintaining weekly virtual office hours, and other requirements as established by the School of Social Work.
  • Maintains frequent and open communication with the Lead Instructor for the assigned courses, the appropriate Program and Field Directors, the Associate Dean, faculty and staff through email, mail, telephone, and any other medium deemed appropriate. Be available at least once a semester to attend a virtual meeting with the School of Social Work.
  • Submits mid-term and end of term grades by required deadline according to WNMU procedures.
  • Maintains a positive, safe, inclusive student-centric learning environment that supports success by enforcing WNMU policies to include student code of conduct policies, and those established by the School of Social Work and Office of Academic Affairs.
  • Models professional standards and ethics in accordance with the NASW Code of Ethics, WNMU, and the School of Social Work mission and vision statements.
  • Assists with Council on Social Work Education Accreditation and Policy Standard competency assessment and ongoing accreditation maintenance/reaffirmation efforts as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Background
Master’s in Social Work with 2 years of post-MSW practice experience required. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

Job Knowledge
Proficiency in the use of online education technology. Background in current evidence-based teaching strategies and innovative approaches to pedagogy. Must be able to adapt to instructional needs of the department depending on circumstances. Must be knowledgeable of university policies and procedures. Must be able to handle multiple deadlines and maintain accuracy. Must be sensitive to cultural differences within the University and community. Knowledge in working with underprepared students in a small classroom environment. Fluent in Microsoft Office Applications. May be required to work additional hours or days depending on circumstances.

Working Conditions/ Physical Demands (With or Without Accommodations)
Normal classroom environment. May be required to lift normal office equipment and materials. Visual acuity to read information from computer screens, forms and other printed materials and information. Able to speak (enunciate) clearly in conversation and general communication. Hearing ability for verbal communication/conversation/responses via telephone, telephone systems, and face-to-face interactions. Manual dexterity for typing, writing, standing, and reaching, flexibility, body movement for bending, crouching, walking, kneeling and prolonged sitting. May be required to work additional hours or days depending on circumstances.
