We have been retained by one of our Washington, DC-area clients to find their next SVP of Accounting & Finance. This client is a major local leader within the real estate/hotel operations space. **This opportunity is based out of the Washington, DC region**
Senior Vice President, Accounting & Finance
The Senior Vice President of Accounting and Finance will oversee all hotel accounting, corporate accounting, treasury, and payroll functions for the company. In this unique position, this individual will lead project-based and long-term financial planning and analysis supporting investment strategy, management of owned assets, and portfolio growth planning. This position will provide skilled consultation and executive support to senior leadership, centralized accounting offices, property level accounting leaders, and operations leaders for over 130 hotels.
The role will influence the strategic direction of core business as well as evaluate alternative growth channels. This position is a member of senior leadership team and is expected to contribute across a broad range of business issues beyond accounting. This position is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of all accounting and payroll related matters.
Moreover, she/he will be accountable for all aspects of FP&A, including annual and long-term financial planning activities, cost optimization, resource allocation, operational reviews, analytical support, strategic financial modelling, and executive reporting to senior leaders and investors. This individual will, additionally, support investor reporting, partner closely with asset management and business partners.
The ideal candidate will have solid experience/exposure within both corporate and hotel accounting.
Role Scope/Breakdown:

- Understand business management software, and must possess excellent leadership and task delegation skills, team building, and time management skills
- Lead, motivate, and inspire colleagues and other stakeholders and lead effective teamwork practices in supporting the accounting team
- A results-oriented, confident individual with the ability to meet tight deadlines is required
- Possess proven leadership and distinguished management skills
Professional/Personal Qualifications:
- Review analysis of accounting activities, costs, operations, and forecast data in relation to property and company goals
- Responsible for timely and accurate financial deliverables to senior management and to multiple third-party hotel ownership groups
- Will lead and help operate payroll function
- Responsible for the treasury functions and cash forecasting
- Provide leadership, motivation, and training to accounting group
- Assist CFO and President with short and long-term strategic planning
- Responsible for ensuring successful internal audit and SOX compliance
- Responsible for the team’s completion of the monthly closing process to ensure reporting deadlines are met as required by the corporate office and third-party management agreements
- Must be able to balance accounting knowledge with excellent and proven leadership skills in strategic planning regarding staff, process improvements, and system enhancements
- Responsible for the team’s timely completion of all reports required by regulatory agencies
- Coordinate all corporate and property year-end audits
- Overall leadership and management of overall company accounting function, including corporate accounting, two centralized accounting offices, and decentralized Finance Directors
Educational/Professional Qualifications/Skills:
- Excellent ERP/systems knowledge
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required
- Experience leading and managing a high-performing team
- Proficiency in training, coaching, and counseling abilities
- Hotel operations, REIT, hospitality industry or related experience is required
- Well-rounded understanding of "people, process & technology" style of leadership
- Knowledgeable with current hospitality accounting procedures and GAAP
- Ability in building strong relationships with other disciplines throughout the company
- Demonstrated proficiency to objectively analyze and prioritize complex challenges
- Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley
- Experience with design or management of a SOC 1 environment
- Proven ability to manage a larger staff both in-house and on property and regional level
- Ability to partner effectively with groups, managers, owners, and customers
- 15+ years of progressive experience in hotel/property accounting
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (and related) is required
- Either a CPA or MBA is highly preferred
