Description:
This firmwide position is responsible for overseeing internal and external training and development programs for the firm’s lawyers and senior professionals to support their professional growth and development and supports training provided by firm lawyers to our clients. This position works closely with professional development partners, section and practice group leadership and other members of the professional development team to conduct training needs assessments, define learning objectives, develop training curriculum, implement training programs, and oversee CLE compliance and training delivery. This position will report to the Chief Professional Development and Human Resources Officer. Preferably the person would be in the eastern or central time zone.
Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Lead the firm’s efforts to assess training needs and develop training curriculum and learning tracks for firm lawyers and senior professionals to support their professional growth and development, including, among others, in the areas of substantive legal training, legal skills training, business development, and leadership skills.
  • Oversee compliance with CLE requirements in various states to ensure the firm is able to provide CLE credit for internal training programs when appropriate. Manage the firm’s “approved provider” status in the states in which this status is available.
  • Manage a team of 3 dedicated training professionals.
  • Design live and e-learning training programs, leveraging various training methods to enhance outcomes.
  • Measure ROI of the firm’s training programs and report on effectiveness. Leverage this information to improve training programs and outcomes.
  • Support the firm’s lawyers with respect to training they provide to the firm’s clients.
  • Identify and participate in the selection of external faculty to provide training to firm lawyers and senior professionals. Work with external faculty to customize training programs to meet firm needs. Manage relationships with external faculty.
  • Provide recommendations and guidance regarding technology solutions to enhance the training function.
  • Work with internal subject matter experts to develop training content. Counsel internal faculty regarding effective presentation skills and training materials.
  • Lead special projects as assigned.
  • Oversee training administration and delivery logistics.
  • Define learning objectives for internal training programs.
Qualifications:
  • Proficient at multitasking, prioritizing, and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Advanced computer skills in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of Continuing Legal Education is desirable.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in law firm professional development with experience in training needs assessments, instructional design and adult learning approaches.
  • Creative, flexible, and results oriented.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills; collaborative approach to working with others.
  • Detail oriented and high attention to quality.
  • Experience supervising and managing others.
Minimum Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree required. JD degree or MA/MS degree in a related field is strongly preferred.
This position may be filled in New York City. In accordance with the New York City Human Rights Law, the pay range for this position in New York City is $158,300 - $237,500/yr. These ranges are specific to these two locations and may not be applicable to other locations. An individual's actual compensation will depend on the individual's qualifications and experience.
