The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for a Research and Grant Administrator at our National Center office located in Dallas, TX.


The Research and Grant Administrator will serve as the program lead for strategic and/or restricted research initiatives, including but not limited to co-funding programs, American Heart Association Board-commissioned programs, strategically-focused research awards and/or other health equity, diversity and inclusion research initiatives funded by American Heart Association. The Research and Grant Administrator will have a sufficient level of scientific training and science-related work experience to oversee the administration of research program funding and communication, with a wide range of duties to ensure that the strategic research awards operate efficiently and effectively.

Responsibilities:
  • Directs the completion/wrap up of each awarded initiative, including (but not limited to) developing end-of-award reports and/or publications. Works collaboratively with other staff (e.g., Evaluation director) and other departments (e.g., design and content/news/editorial) to produce outcomes documents and reports for the American Heart Association Board of Directors and other key American Heart Association audiences.
  • Directs the American Heart Association budgeting process for assigned awards and other focused research programs. Administers financial information for strategic awards and other focused research award programs, including analyzing and monitoring budgets, and auditing financial reports.
  • Serves as a liaison with other American Heart Association departments, including finance, legal, technology, and communications to ensure the research awards and restricted research programs are managed in compliance with American Heart Association policy and mission.
  • Develops content for webinars and online training sessions for applicants and grants officers, as needed or requested. Delivers presentations to groups on webinars and in-person meetings.
  • Manages activities for various volunteer program committees, including primary staffing of committees as assigned. This includes Oversight Advisory Committees, and other subcommittees, task forces, and working groups as assigned and required to execute programs.
  • Manages communications with awardees, and serves as primary resource for program administration tasks. Works closely with principal investigators, grants officers and fiscal officers at the funded institutions to ensure successful reporting, communications, and outcomes.
  • Responsible for planning science meetings, conferences, and webinars for assigned strategic award programs. In conjunction with meetings staff, coordinates logistics and works with meetings staff to secure contracts, and meeting plans. Directs the plans for research/business updates, including web site information and other written communicaton channels.
  • Manages focused research co-funding relationships —negotiates new ones and oversees existing ones (e.g., Enduring Hearts, and others as assigned). Actively manages these relationships and their identified awards. Matches available awards to sponsors’ interests and works with mission advancement and finance to document.
Other Duties
  • Works to improve processes for awards management, including continuous improvement for projects as directed by leadership. Leads periodic team meetings and staff meetings.
  • Works closely with peer review management to ensure appropriate peer review of strategically focused research programs and other specialty programs, as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant scientific discipline. Master’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Superb organizational skills
  • Successful demonstration of volunteer coordination & management
  • Ability to write, edit and produce reports and other formal documents of communication.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate data and information.
  • Ability to think logically to solve problems.
  • Ability to use databases to execute queries for information.
  • Thorough knowledge and use of common office software required.
  • Project management experience, with ability to juggle/complete multiple projects.
  • Ability to produce, manage and understand financial documents
  • Knowledge of various research programs (NIH, NHLBI, American Heart Association)
