Job Description
Our client is a Memphis based nonprofit focused on healthcare. Our client is seeking an experienced Grant Writer and Researcher for its 501(c)(3). Initially the position will be part-time (15-20 hours weekly) with growth opportunities. The grant writer is needed to join their growing team and increase revenue specifically for programs for the uninsured/underserved population of the Memphis MSA.

Position Description
The Grant Writer works with the Executive Director and Community Engagement and Outreach Manager to develop and secure grants. Major responsibilities include but are not limited to: read and understand a wide range of requests for proposals; coordinate, plan and write grant applications; edit, prepare, format, and package proposals; compile appendices and attachments; submit proposals on multiple grant submission platforms; and collaborate with the Senior Director of Operations and other program staff to compile data.

Specific job goals, objectives and tasks include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Be an active member of the team; enhance the team's effectiveness and performance
  • Raise funds for other events as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Manage tasks and resources effectively and efficiently
  • Submit proposals on a variety of grant submission platforms
  • Coordinate, plan, develop, review and write grant proposals for public and private funders
  • Edit, prepare, format and package proposal submissions
  • High-level organizational skills as it relates to data compilation
  • Develop contacts with potential funders
  • Compile appendices and attachments for proposals
  • Conduct research to identify potential funding sources

Preferred Education and Experience
A combination of experience and education is necessary to qualify for the position:
  • A strong writing background is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree, (preferably Master’s Degree) in English, Communications, Non-Profit Management or related field
  • A minimum of five years of applicable experience in fund development for nonprofits is preferred (education may be substituted for some of the experience).

  • Ability to communicate clearly and persuade grantors why proposal should be accepted
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Work performed in an office requires ability to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment, including telephone. Use may be moderate (average 2 hours per day) to heavy (4 or more hours per day)

The employee may occasionally lift and or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
This position may require light (up to 1 to 5 days per month) automobile travel.
