What you will do?

poppi Prebiotic Soda company is looking for a talented and passionate individual to join our growing Operations team. The QA Specialist role reports to the Senior Quality Manager, working remotely, will be responsible for quality, documentation review (batch cards, ingredient documentation, COA for raw materials and finished goods, etc.), record compliance, reporting, data intake and analysis, as well as onsite co-packer visits and product reviews.

The person in this position must have a proven track record of successfully working in a self-led position and must be very analytical minded to implement good QA procedures, report data trends and results accurately, and escalate any deviations promptly. This position will grow and evolve in the future as the company expands to include additional responsibilities of the quality assurance department. This is a fully remote position but looking for candidates specifically located in the southern California region.

• Supports co-packing related special situations fact finding and resolution. Ensure resolution of chronic and/or serious supplier quality issues
• Routinely sends samples to external laboratories and works to coordinate testing protocols
• Support the disposition of damaged, expired, and donated finished goods and materials.
• Updates database with pre/post-production documents
• Issues, monitors, and manages SCAR system for raw material supplier non-conformities.
• Assist other departments, such as R&D and Procurement as needed.
• Reviews 3rd party’s manufacturer’s production records and documentation, per production run
• Reviews 3rd party testing results to ensure compliance to products’ specs
• Conducts onsite visits at 3rd party manufacturers during production
• Responding to and troubleshooting for product defects and dispositions
• Reports Complaints to 3rd party manufacturer’s QA department, analyzes the results and maintains record for scorecard reporting.
• Confirms product and packaging conformance to specifications
• Escalates issues with late SCARS to Quality management through email notifications and/or monthly metrics.
• Supports in maintaining current versions of departmental and factory documents, including 3rd party audit certifications, ingredients and supplier approval documentation.
• Successfully completes projects (with approval from supervisor/manager) in a timely manner with minimal supervision.
• Monthly KPI presentation
• Performs sensory TOA testing.
• Corresponds with 3rd party manufacturer’s QA and production team
• Responsible for quality of product
• Qualify potential copackers and vendors

Your Background

• Strong background and intimate knowledge of manufacturing as it relates to soda CSD manufacturing.
• Ability to communicate with others clearly and professionally via phone, email, and in person.
• Some onsite visits with 3rd party manufacturers as needed or for training purposes, <30%.
• Excellent interpersonal, multi-tasking and organizational skills as well as good attention to detail required.
• Occasional lifting of product cases; ability to comfortably lift 50 pounds.
• Laboratory Experience in a food, beverage or CPG environment preferred but not required.
• Ability to obtain any needed food safety certifications, such as HACCP and PCQI.
• Good command of business mathematics with strong analytical skills.
• 4-year degree in a science field: chemistry, biology, or food science background preferred.

Physical Requirements

• The ability to utilize standard office equipment, such as phones, computers, and copy machines.
• The ability to sit, stand, walk, and type for long periods of time.
• Some onsite visits with 3rd party manufacturers as needed or for training purposes, <30%.
• Occasional lifting of product cases; ability to comfortably lift 50 pounds.
• Occasional exposure to outside weather conditions.
• The ability to understand and follow directions and verbally communicate with others in a typical office environment.
