Job Description
What We Do

With residents and partners, LISC forges resilient and inclusive communities of opportunity across America – great places to live, work, visit, do business and raise families.

Strategies We Pursue

  • Invest in businesses, housing and other community infrastructure to catalyze economic, health, safety and educational mobility for individuals and communities.
  • Develop leadership and the capacity of partners to advance our work together.
  • Drive local, regional, and national policy and system changes that foster broadly shared prosperity and well-being.
  • Strengthen existing alliances while building new collaborations to increase our impact on the progress of people and places.
  • Equip talent in underinvested communities with the skills and credentials to compete successfully for quality income and wealth opportunities.

Since 1979, LISC and its affiliates have invested approximately $29.7 billion in businesses, affordable housing, health, educational mobility, community and recreational facilities, public safety, employment, and other projects that help to revitalize and stabilize underinvested communities. Headquartered in New York City, LISC’s reach spans the country from East coast to West coast in 38 markets with offices extending from Buffalo to San Francisco and in 2,400 rural counties across 49 states and Puerto Rico. Recognizing its potential influence in the fight to close gaps in health equity, LISC announced in 2017 a new strategic focus on improving the health and well-being of the people and communities it serves. Combining LISC’s financing and community-building abilities with the unique data, knowledge and other resources of health care entities is a priority in this work, as is supporting LISC teams and local partners in developing an intentional racial equity lens for our investments that advance health.

Responsibilities

The Program Officer works as a part of a dynamic team that is focused on building upon LISC’s historical success and leadership in health equity while elevating the program to a new scale and scope. The Program Officer will play a key role in managing grant programs, stewarding relationships with internal and external partners, and contributing to the evolution of LISC’s investments to advance health equity. Responsibilities include:

  • Assist with other special projects and duties as assigned.
  • Gather and synthesize information to support program, professional, and partnership development for the Health team, including supporting the team’s continued learning and adoption of DEIJ values and strategies.
  • In collaboration with Health team colleagues, develop and execute a national communications strategy to amplify LISC’s work around health, including managing health content on the LISC external website and internal intranet site, supporting team participation in conferences and events, and engaging with LISC’s Communications team on amplification of successes from Health team programs.
  • Manage a portfolio of major grant programs for the Health team. Activities include designing and implementing programs; engaging with community-based partners to negotiate grant agreements and deliver technical assistance; identifying and executing process improvements as needed; managing spending against budgets; ensuring grant compliance; and drafting reports and other communications through LISC’s systems.
  • Coordinate with LISC’s Community Research and Impact, Strategy and Innovation, and other National Programs teams to contribute to the development and dissemination of resources (how-to guide guides, case studies, briefs, articles, and other materials) by drawing on content expertise of Health team, field offices, partners, and national best practices.
  • Participate in organization-wide learning, meetings and events.
  • Support the Health team in deploying LISC’s Health strategy that integrates cross-sector partnerships between the community development, healthcare, and public health sectors.

Qualifications

  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite of programs, especially Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Candidate must also have the capacity to learn and navigate new software required for all LISC employees and for specific program initiatives.
  • Minimum three (3) years of professional experience in community development, public health or related field.
  • Strong project management skills including ability to manage budgets and task timelines.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred, however, relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Advanced degree in community development, healthcare administration, public administration or policy, public health or a related field is a plus.
  • National travel will be required consistent with COVID-19 safety considerations, ~5%
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to represent LISC effectively in external meetings with community and philanthropic partners.
  • Superior interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively with diverse co-workers and partners.
  • Highly motivated individual who is self-directed, able to successfully work simultaneously on multiple tasks and projects, and be a positive, solution-oriented professional.
  • Strong understanding of intersections of healthcare and community development, health inequities, wealth and opportunity, and commitment to advancing LISC’s mission accordingly.

Compensation

LISC offers a competitive salary ( $ 77,607 - $86,596; salary commensurate with location and experience) and excellent fringe benefits.
