Production Training Manager
About this Opportunity
With over three years as an established Ericsson Production Site in the US, the Smart Factory Production team is looking to add a Training Manager to focus our training resources and grow our internal training and development capabilities for Production staff.
The US 5G Smart Factory values opportunities for career growth within the organization. As such, it has increasingly become the focus of the Production organization to provide a path for our Operators, Team Leads, and Supervisors to become the technical- and people-leaders of the future throughout Ericsson. The Production Training Manager will directly manage our growing team of Technical Trainers to provide the training necessary to onboard new assembly Operators and to grow the skills of more experienced Operators. Additionally, this role will also be responsible for planning and facilitating regular leadership development activities directed primarily towards our Team Leads and Supervisors.
The Production Training Manager will truly be on the forefront of ensuring that the Smart Factory’s Production workforce has all the skills necessary to build the most sophisticated 5G radios and basebands on the planet.
What you will do
Train and Develop Production Team
- Assist in organizing and implementing team building events and recognition programs
- Collaborate as needed with subject matter experts locally and globally to ensure training content quality and preparedness for base-level training on new products and processes
- Develop leadership and management skills of Production Team Leads and Supervisors in areas such as communication, conflict resolution, mentoring and coaching, recognition, and scenario planning and execution
- Work closely with Technical Trainers on new employee orientation and onboarding activities for Operators
- Work with Area Managers and Technical Trainers to plan and execute training efforts to ensure readiness of shifts to meet production goals
- Target supplemental training based on feedback and input from Production leadership, Engineers, Quality resources, and others
- Own local implementation of Production on-the-job training and development program based on guidance from global Ericsson Career and Competence Model
- Implement training directly and through Technical Trainers with a mix of on-the-floor-and classroom-based learning in one-on-one and small group settings
Provide Insight
- Provide comprehensive view of Production’s current skill levels to understand where competence strengths and weaknesses exist and target teams or individuals with cross-training opportunities to expand capability
- Communicate progress in training, assessing, and certifying Operators on their skills in functional areas across the Production floor
- Own and drive improvements for training-related metrics in various forums
- Ensure audit readiness by keeping governing documents and training records up to date
Manage Technical Trainers
- Perform people management functions such as annual salary review, annual performance review, time reporting, and application of applicable Ericsson corporate and factory-specific policies
- Lead recruiting efforts and interviews for all new Surface Mount Assembly (SMA) and Final Assembly (FA) Technical Trainers
- Provide performance feedback to Technical Trainers through one-on-one meetings and the formal talent management process
- Develop technical trainers’ ability to assess, train, and coach Operators
- Promote, understand, and strictly adhere to all safety, environmental, and quality guidelines without deviation
- Maintain contact and alignment on current goals, actions, and results with Trainers across all Production shifts
You will bring
Essential Qualifications
- Comfort with data analysis and creation of clear communications and presentations
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a highly diverse, fast-paced, and constantly evolving work environment
- Proven leadership behavior and people management skills
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education, Industrial Psychology, Human Resources, or related field
- The motivation to learn and constantly improve people and ways of working
Ideal Qualifications
- Experience working with a technical, blue-collar workforce
- Technology and manufacturing process knowledge
- Experience in a training role
- Knowledge of Ericsson products and processes
