Position:Payroll Specialist
Location:100% Remote
Duration:6+months contract
Responsible for conducting and documenting payroll analytical projects. This position works under general direction, participates in determining assignment objectives, plans and schedules its own activities to accomplish objectives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assists with gathering, deriving, and processing input to the payroll system to support gross-to-net calculations.
• Maintains multiple general ledger payroll maps, provides assistance to Finance departments to interpret, reconcile, and adjust journal entries.
• Performs periodic audits of payroll areas including, but not limited to, paid time off, time reporting and correction, termination payments. Provides scheduled reports of overages and recoveries.
• Prepares scheduled chargebacks for payroll services.
• Works with Internal Controls to ensure that all payroll-related corporate governance rules are implemented and maintained.
• Assists payroll staff and other interested parties to interpret and apply payroll and benefit laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Understands end-to-end payroll functions and is able to relate these to company objectives.
• Answers inquiries and provides required data to internal and external auditors as needed.
• Brings identified problems with recommended solutions to the attention of management.
Requirements (years of experience, educational background, technical skills, etc.):
• 5-7 years of related experience, OR equivalent.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or related field, preferred.
• CPP (Certified Payroll Professional), preferred.
• Communication – Highly developed communication, interpersonal and teamwork skills.
• Detail Oriented – Ability to compare a list of data to a master list and be able to note the differences.
• Ability to meet operational deadlines coupled with ad hoc crisis management.
• Accuracy – As an accounting position, accuracy is most important.
• Superior software skills, including expert level EXCEL as well as a knowledge of general ledger and payroll reporting tools.
• In-depth experience with successful payroll-software implementations.
• Self-directed, needs little supervision
