Part-time Payroll Assistant


Cayuga Centers is hiring immediately for PART-TIME PAYROLL ASSISTANT


Earn $21.00 hourly


Location: Auburn, NY

About The Program And Position


Our program serves all employees across all locations. We serve by helping employees to understand their pay. And this MAKES A DIFFERENCE because our employees do important work and deserved to be paid accurately for the work they do. The role you play in all this is by helping new employees gain access to the payroll systems as well as facilitate meetings for supervisors.


How You Get To Use Your Skills


  • Make copies of correspondence or other printed matter, using copying machine
  • Schedule appointments, give information to callers for the Payroll Department
  • Prepare periodic reports at discretion of Director of Payroll
  • Prepare outgoing mail, using postage-metering machine
  • At the direction of the Payroll Assistant Director, perform clerical work and minor administrative and business detail
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Locate and attach appropriate file to correspondence to be answered by Payroll Team
  • Prepare notes, correspondence, and reports; record minutes of staff meetings
  • Assist Payroll Team with compiling and entering payroll data, and reconcile errors to maintain payroll records using payroll system
  • Read and route incoming mail
  • Work with Payroll Team to ensure accuracy of payroll
  • Assist employees with access to payroll and timekeeping software


Physical Requirements


  • Completing paperwork -Such as copying, stapling
  • Able to travel when needed
  • Word processing: Including responding to emails, composing letters, completing computerized documentation, transcribing minutes for meetings, etc.: This involves sitting at a computer for a minimum of 5 hours and could be up to 7 hours a day depending on program needs.
  • Lifting of Agency file books - weighing approximately 6-8 lbs. each - 5 inch binders
  • Answering phones, processing mail, filing, lifting packages
  • Walking up/down stairs


Schedule: Non-Exempt


  • Regular hours entail 9:00am - 5:00pm, 2-3 days per week
  • Must be flexible to meet program needs


Required Experience


Required Experience:


  • Good communication skills that include both verbal and written communication
  • Valid NYS Driver License, required
  • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office; advanced Excel skills;
  • Confidentiality, high level attention to detail, analyzing information, thoroughness, general math and reporting skills and organization is a must
  • Ability to multitask under pressure with accuracy is essential
  • Payroll software experience, a plus
  • High School Diploma/GED required and 1-year payroll secretary, administrative or customer service experience preferred
