Flatpage is an editorial agency and publishing house that specializes in delivering top-quality editing to academics, nonfiction authors, nonprofits, and companies and publishing books that captivate wide audiences. As a mission-driven business, Flatpage empowers authors and content creators to write engaging texts that resonate with their readers. Our team of editors, most of whom are former academics, works collaboratively to ensure every project meets the highest standards of excellence.
Position: Project Manager
We are seeking a skilled and dynamic project manager to join our team at Flatpage. This part-time position involves leading client interaction and onboarding, overseeing a team of talented editors, and ensuring seamless project management through productivity platforms. The ideal candidate should be based in the NYC area, possess excellent project management and customer service skills, and have extensive knowledge of the editing and publishing process. We are seeking an ambitious self-starter who’s excited to grow with our company.
This is a part-time position, where you'll be expected to work regular weekly hours up to 20 hours per week, with the potential to develop into a full-time position. Although this role is primarily remote, the successful candidate will be based in the NYC area and required to attend occasional in-person meetings and work hours in NYC in the future.
Responsibilities:
- Project Management: Utilize project management tools and productivity platforms to effectively plan, track, and manage projects. Identify potential roadblocks and proactively address them to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
- Quality Assurance: Maintain high-quality standards for all editing and publishing projects. Review completed work to ensure the deliverables align with the client's requirements and adheres to Flatpage's guidelines.
- Client Interaction and Onboarding: Act as the primary point of contact for clients, understanding their editorial needs, and ensuring clear communication throughout the project lifecycle. Facilitate the onboarding process, gather project requirements, and establish project timelines.
- Customer Service: Prioritize excellent customer service, promptly addressing client inquiries, concerns, and feedback. Strive to exceed client expectations and foster long-lasting relationships.
- Process Improvement: Continuously optimize project management workflows, identify areas for improvement, and implement efficient processes to enhance overall productivity.
- Team Management: Oversee a team of editors, providing guidance, support, and feedback to ensure project goals and deadlines are met. Foster a collaborative and motivating work environment, enabling editors to deliver exceptional work.
Requirements:
- Project Management Skills: Demonstrated experience in project management, coordinating multiple tasks, and delivering projects on time and within budget.
- Education: Bachelor's degree or higher, preferably with a master's degree in a related field such as English, communications, or a relevant discipline.
- Editing and Publishing Knowledge: Familiarity with various editing styles (e.g., CMOS, APA), publishing processes, and the overall content-creation lifecycle.
- Leadership Abilities: Proven ability to manage and lead a team of freelance editors, encouraging collaboration and fostering a positive work environment.
- Client-Focused: Strong customer service orientation with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Tech-Savvy: Proficient in using project-management and productivity platforms to streamline workflows and track project progress (e.g., Basecamp, Trello, Slack).
- Organizational Skills: Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively, particularly during time constraints.
- Flexibility: Ability to adapt to new technologies and workflows, as well as handle last-minute and time-sensitive requests.
Hours and Compensation:
This position requires between 10 to 20 hours per week, depending on project volume, with opportunity for future growth. Although this position is remote from the NYC area, the person in this position will be required to attend continuous virtual calls with our chief editor during working hours, primarily in the morning EST. Occasional in-person meetings/hours in NYC will be possible in the future. The starting rate of compensation is $25-$30 per hour, depending on experience.
How to Apply:
If you believe you are a perfect fit for this role and have the skills and qualifications outlined above, please submit your updated resume (2 pages max) and a cover letter addressed to Cara Jordan outlining your relevant experience to [email protected] (subject line should include the position title and your name). Successful applicants will be contacted for an interview for a start date in Fall 2023.
We look forward to reviewing your application!
