While Basketball Operations runs the league's on-court activities, other departments manage relationships with television and digital media partners, develop marketing partnerships with some of the world's most recognizable companies, oversee the licensing of WNBA merchandise, and handle a wide range of responsibilities that drive the WNBA's success.
This position will serve as both a key day-to-day liaison between Marketing Partnerships & Media (MP&M) and relevant WNBA subgroups (e.g., Growth & Innovation, Marketing, Player Programs, Digital Products, Finance, Communications). This commercial-minded and process-oriented individual will focus on the process and execution of marketing partnership programs and deliverables that help drive league revenue and marketing partner objectives.
Major Responsibilities:
- Proactively seek input from across the organization to develop integrated and successful sponsorship activation ideas for potential and existing partners
- Assist with budgeting of activation expenses for WNBA partnerships
- Collaborate closely with key WNBA subgroups (e.g., Growth, Player Programs, Marketing, Basketball Operations, etc.) to identify, develop, and optimize new WNBA Marketing Partnership opportunities, benefits and programs
- Develop strong understanding of the WNBA ecosystem and MP&M business to uncover new commercial opportunities for current and/or prospective partners
- Work closely with MP&M Media Partnerships team and WNBA Digital Team to support revenue growth on digital products and ensure requirements are communicated effectively and partner benefits are delivered successfully
- Have a firm handle and stay on top of key dates and timelines to ensure ample lead-time and planning cycles to successfully execute programs and program deliverables
- Work closely with MP&M Media Partnerships team and WNBA Marketing to ensure all WNBA institutional/league-controlled media includes proper marketing partner attributions
- Identify solutions to partner business challenges and remove project roadblocks
- Provide partnership expertise in the comprehension of contractual elements and understanding of the leagues’ and partners' business goals/target audiences/marketing strategy and knowledge of best practices and industry news
- Coordinate nationally televised on-court branding schedules with WNBA Creative Services group and broadcasting team
- Serve as a primary liaison between WNBA and Marketing Partnerships & Media (MP&M)
- Support the continued growth and development of the WNBA Changemakers platform both internally and externally
- Support WNBA and Changemaker marketing partnership account teams to operationalize and execute Changemaker benefits and recapping
- Overall inventory management
- Serve as primary POC and liaise with WNBA Communications team on all press releases and communications relevant to Marketing Partners
- Drive revenue growth through the creation of new sellable marketing programs, identification of sales targets, upsell opportunities and development of sales strategies
Required Education/Professional Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Successful experience in working cross-functionally and operationalizing partnership programs and deliverables
- Minimum 5 years professional experience in relevant field (marketing, business solutions/operations, account management)
- Commercial and entrepreneurial mindset with intention to scale at an enterprise level
Required Skills/Knowledge Attributes:
- Must be highly motivated, proactive, self-starter with high energy and team spirit
- Knowledge and experience in navigating challenging situations that lead to desired outcomes
- Strong ability to create and lead presentations
- Understanding of sports sponsorship landscape is a plus
- Ability to multitask and know what to prioritize
- Demonstrated relationship management skills both internally and externally (including with senior executives); ability to adapt to various personalities and working styles
- Experience with project management - both non-event and event management a plus
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Enjoys fast paced and challenging work environment
Salary Range: $100,000 - $125,000
