Job Description
Position Title: Operations Manager


Job Summary


Manage and coordinates all activities for manufacturing assembly, manufacturing test, manufacturing engineering, manufacturing test engineering, repairs, and facilities functions. This includes all activities related to operations and development of Company products by performing duties personally or through direct report employees. The aerospace component business is very dynamic, with changes in design, schedule, and expectations. In response, the Operations Manager role requires the ability to maintain flexibility, develop fluid plans, and understand the need to change priorities.


Primary Responsibilities


Essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to:


  • Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems utilizing root cause analysis tools such as Pareto analysis, 5Y, and Ishikawa diagram.
  • Interprets specifications, drawings, and job orders to workers, and assigns duties.
  • Provides guidance to the development of manufacturing and repair process plan, including personnel requirements, material needs, subcontract requirements, facility needs, and tooling and equipment needs.
  • Identify development needs to support effectiveness of staff and plans accordingly. Provide monthly performance feedback for each team member with discussion and review of work efficiency process.
  • Supports new business / contract proposal efforts by providing detailed and accurate information related to manufacturing labor and lead time.
  • Generates monthly shipment forecast to guarantee that all contractual requirements are met while meeting the sales target for each month.
  • Actively engage in succession planning with high potential team members to ensure succession readiness for Operations Management.
  • Supervises daily operations of the Manufacturing and Repair Team (as directed by VP of Operations) to ensure effective and efficient business performance that optimize revenues and ensures excellent Customer Satisfaction.
  • Collect & review data to manage performance on key Operations metrics: On Time Delivery (OTD), Past Dues, Cost of Poor Quality, Repair Turn Around Time (TAT), and Employee Health and Safety (EH&S).
  • Reviews production, repair, and operating reports and directs the resolution of operational, manufacturing and facility problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
  • Ensure sufficient staffing, knowledge, training and tools to support optimal performance of the team.
  • Propose new metrics and processes to drive improvement. Ensure current process documentation compliance via periodic process audits.
  • Develops, recommends, and implements measures to drive productivity cost reductions through improved production methods, equipment performance, automation, and quality of product.
  • Plans, schedules, and sequences for production and repair operations.
  • Manage escalated customer concerns, issues, feedback or complaints. Involve management, as needed, to ensure optimal resolution of customer concerns and facilitate business improvement.
  • Perform quarterly staffing analysis and recommend headcount adjustments as needed to align with changing business demands.
  • Collaborates with the Sales & Marketing Team to ensure alignment with monthly sales forecast. Generates a weekly shipment report to track that sales remain on schedule for the month and identifies potential risks and mitigations.
  • Performs weekly Estimate at Complete (EAC) analysis and estimates for production, spares and repairs backlog.
  • Manage and track department budget, update expense forecast monthly, and provide inputs to Operations annual budget including CAPEX and Productivity savings.
  • Assist in negotiation of contract Terms and Conditions applicable to Manufacturing work scope.
  • Determines work procedures, prepares work schedules and expedites workflow. Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production and repair schedules.
  • Coordinate across organization to ensure transparency, communication, compliance and business improvement.
  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.


Qualifications


  • To comply with U.S. export laws and regulations, Palomar Products Inc. operations in the U.S. may only employ "U.S. Persons" as defined by the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
  • Strong supervisory and people skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (with strong excel skills).

  • AA Degree with 5+ years of experience in or supporting a manufacturing environment. Currently enrolled or plan to complete an undergraduate program within 4 years.
  • Excellent communication skills, including written, oral and stand-up presentation.
  • Strong experience identifying productivity improvements.
  • Extremely organized and detail oriented.
  • Salary Range: $90,000- $135,000
  • In-depth knowledge of manufacturing and engineering processes (e.g., work orders, work instructions, workflow, MRB, engineering change orders, CCB).
  • BS degree in related field with a minimum of 3 years of experience in or supporting a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong reasoning and data driven analytical skills.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing equipment (e.g., environmental stress screening, ESD monitoring, Automated CCA Testing, quality and reliability.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a leadership role.
  • Strong leadership skills with emphasis in influence, motivation, development, and retention of talent.
