What’s the role?

Etsy is looking for a Research Operations Manager who has a passion and track record for building systems and processes for research to scale.

As a Research Ops Manager at Etsy, you will manage a team of research coordinators and program managers, while leading our Research Ops discipline. You will work in partnership with the Research Ops team and our research leadership team to develop processes to maximize impact as we continue to grow.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Sr. Manager, Research, and the base salary range will be 149,000.00 - 193,000.00 USD per year. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy. The Research team at Etsy helps inspire product and business decisions, using multi-methods research to guide the development of buyer and seller experiences in our dynamic marketplace of unique items.

Our research operations team works across both product and market research. We collaborate with researchers and our partners through all stages of research, and strive to build an operating center of excellence which empowers researchers to deliver high quality, impactful insights at scale.

What does the day-to-day look like?

• Lead a team of recruitment coordinators and research program managers, mentoring them in their craft, prioritization and career development.
• Assign and delegate project responsibilities, and help hold our team accountable to prioritizing work and hitting key goals
• Partner with Research Ops, researchers, and managers to guide program development and refinement to support our multi-disciplined and mixed-methods team, drawing on expertise and industry standards
• Own our Research Ops discipline, providing leadership which includes the development and maintenance of our “toolkit,” documentation, process, and user access
• Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law.
• Partner with other research managers to grow and develop the research team via our toolkit, talent, and socialization techniques
• Recruit and hire outstanding talent, and facilitate their onboarding experience
• Collaborate and communicate in a way that amplifies the voice of our research team and customers
• Directly contribute to our Research team’s strategy and focus areas

Qualifications

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

• 5+ years experience in research operations, and has led research operations before in a growing company, ideally in a B2C or e-commerce company
• Subject matter expertise in research operations, including data governance and procurement
• You are able to spot opportunities and inefficiencies in systems and processes, and anticipate roadblocks or capacity issues before they arise
• You balance rigor, speed, and creativity, and guide your teams on prioritization, planning, and problem solving practices that do the same
• 1+ years previous research operations management experience, developing and motivating a successful Research Ops team, and enjoy mentoring others on how to progress in their careers
• A demonstrated track record of proactively building and rolling out high quality processes and programs to growing research teams
• You are a connector and have a high comfort level in building relationships and collaborating with internal and external relationships with key partners (Product, Marketing, Legal, Ops, etc.)
• Previous experience working with vendors for international research, participant recruitment, and developing research toolkits
