Job Description
Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume) Doctoral degree in Neuroscience, or closely related field or foreign equivalent degree. Three (3) years of research experience in studying rodent brain development, to include at least one year of research experience following attainment of a Doctoral degree or foreign equivalent. Knowledge and expertise in in-utero genetic manipulations of rodent brains. Experience in advanced molecular cloning. Knowledge of mouse genetics.Preferred Qualifications: * Experience in brain slice immunohistochemistry and slice preparation for imaging. Previous experience in managing mouse colonies. Knowledge of biochemistry. Experience in preparation of primary cultured rodent cortical and hippocampal neurons. Experience with CRISPR genome editing.Brief Description of Duties: * Stony Brook University has a Research Scientist in the . The incumbent will develop, design and run research experiments and ensure that all research protocols follow the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University. The Research Scientist will be responsible for the operations of the lab.- Carry out independent and/or teach research in rodent brain development using in-utero genetic manipulations of embryonic rodent brains to examine dendrite development in vivo. Will design and develop the research experiments to achieve the research goal.- Analyze data to quantify dendrite development in vivo and in cultures of embryonic cortical and hippocampal neurons, utilizing specialized techniques.- Biochemical examination of genes if interest in dendrite development.- Lab management, including oversight/supervision of Undergraduate and/or Graduate students, Research Technicians, or provide training in various research methods. Maintenance of lab including equipment maintenance, mouse care and ordering of needed supplies.- Prepare manuscripts for publications in peer reviewed and/or scientific journals.
