JOB TITLE: Manager of Student Experience

LOCATION: Phoenix, AZ with 2-3 days of travel every 6-8 weeks.

START DATE: Spring/Summer 2023

We are creating a network of in-person microschools where students learn at their own pace using a digital curriculum, get in-person academic support from an educator, and socialize with their peers.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES


KaiPod Learning is growing in the 2023-24 school year. We anticipate operating multiple pods in and around Phoenix, Arizona. We aim to deliver incredibly fun, positive, learning spaces for children to grow and thrive. KaiPods are staffed by Learning Coaches who are the key to our success. The Manager of Student Experience will lead a team of KaiPod Learning Coaches and work alongside the Manager of Academic Success to ensure we deliver an exceptional experience for students and families at KaiPod locations across the country.


More specifically:


1. Manage Learning Coaches - serve as the direct manager for 8 - 12 of our learning coaches.


  • Requires occasional travel to KaiPod locations throughout the country.
  • Build positive and productive relationships with the KaiPod Learning Coaches.
  • Work closely with our Manager of Academic Success to ensure that all KaiPod students at your sites are making academic progress.
  • Meet weekly with learning coaches to support oversight and management of currently operating pods to ensure all KaiPods are high functioning.
  • Ensure students are having an incredibly positive social experience while at KaiPod.
  • Using in-person observations, templates, and a deep understanding of our vision, evaluate the effectiveness of each KaiPod and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Provide thoughtful feedback to Learning Coaches. Help come up with viable solutions to challenges observed on the ground.


2. As the Manager of the Student Experience, you will also be responsible for creating a positive social experience for all students and families across the entire KaiPod network. This includes:

  • Supporting coaches in planning and executing fun and engaging enrichments, self-directed learning projects, and social time for all students.
  • We want students at KaiPod to always feel emotionally and physically safe, to have a close friend at the pod, and to proactively uphold norms. We would like the Manager of Student Experience to help train our Learning Coaches on how to create this culture through things like relationship building, restorative circles, and having nuanced conversations with a student about how they can be a better community member.
  • Build a community of parents. Plan events that make our families feel connected. Work with parent liaisons to plan potlucks, coffee mornings, etc.
  • Create routines that help coaches build community.
  • Collaborating with individuals and organizations within the community who can offer engaging experiences for our students.

  • Someone who is open to new experiences and is known in their community for organizing fun events.
  • The Manager of Student Experience will work closely with our Manager of Academic Success as well as our learning coaches. They will also interact with our Head of Enrollment and Chief Marketing Officer. They must be a highly effective listener and communicator.
  • Someone who has demonstrated being able to build a strong community of students and families in the past.
  • Fun and community are not wishy-washy terms. We want someone who thinks objectively and sets quantifiable goals.
  • Understand and utilize observation templates to evaluate the effectiveness of a KaiPod. Provide clear, detailed, written observation notes.
  • Proactively present viable solutions to problems KaiPods encounter to the CAO via writing or conversation. Quick to identify and communicate challenges. Equally as quick to propose solutions and options.


MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATION/REQUIREMENTS

  • At least two years of experience in a school leadership role (Dean of Students or culture coordinator) is preferred.
  • Strong consideration for experiences like leading a camp or other student experiences.
  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least five years of teaching and some leadership experience (for example grade level chair) is preferred.


DURATION, COMPENSATION

  • Compensation commensurate with experience.
  • Full-time employment starting in the Spring or Summer of 2023.
