Hybrid (Remote & In-Person) – Miami, FL
Full-Time (40 hours/week)
Salary: $60,000 / yr
Guitars Over Guns Organization (GOGO) is a nationally recognized, award-winning nonprofit that is challenging the perception of what is possible for youth who experience the power of music-based mentorship. We place teams of professional teaching artists in after-school and community-based programs to provide a powerful combination of music education and mentoring at no cost to youth from vulnerable communities in Miami, Los Angeles, and Chicago.

POSITION OVERVIEW
GOGO is seeking its first Manager of People & Culture (MPC) to serve as the head of the Human Resources function and as a key partner to the regional and national executive teams in leading and creating initiatives, systems, and best practices to develop, train, and support a high-performing workforce and who will build an organizational culture that supports advancement of our mission, core values, and strategic plans. The MPC will report to the President/CEO.
In this role, the MPC will review and refresh the core human resource functions including hiring processes, onboarding, and performance management. The MPC will help lead and develop a plan for staffing, talent strategy,internal communication processes, performance management, benefits management, and professional development. Evaluating current and building new HR systems will also be necessary.
GOGO is a mid-size organization of 21 full-time employees and ~80 independent contractors across 3 U.S. states. Our people are our greatest asset! We are experiencing an exciting phase of evolution and growth, and are seeking a talented, ambitious MPC who is excited about the prospect of building something great.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Complaints, mediation & grievances: Serve as the organization’s internal contact for employee concerns; uphold organization policies to address employee concerns: assess, mediate, resolve, coach through, and/or elevate to executive or board attention.
- Employee life-cycle: Manage the hiring process to ensure consistency and communication across departments. Provide on-boarding services and agency orientation to all new staff members as well as Master of Social Work and Bachelor of Social Work Interns; ensure department and/or program level orientations are standardized and effective. Train, coach, and support managers to navigate evaluation, training, promotion, discipline, termination, and other HR issues.
- Organization culture & talent management: Weave our core values and mission throughout the HR functions of the organization, including hiring, onboarding, evaluation, development, promotion, and recognition for all employees, contractors, and interns.
- Role clarity: Collaborate with managers to update job descriptions and KPIs across the organization and implement a system for regular review and revision to descriptions.
- Systems creation & improvement: Review current HR systems and explore, and ultimately implement, new systems based on organizational needs.
- Internal communications: Work with the Special Assistant to the President/CEO to review and recommend improvements to internal communications processes.
- Compliance management: Ensure GOGO’s compliance with national and state labor regulations in Florida, Illinois, and California.
- Benefits management: Serve as the staff lead collaborating with vendors to oversee the administration of employee benefits, including PTO, medical insurance, and 401(k).
- Compensation philosophy: Research, implement, and maintain salary scales and mobility plans to standardized ranges and practices across the organization and relative to peer organizations.
NECESSARY QUALITIES
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Technologically savvy; comfortable learning new software
- High degree of discernment around confidential and sensitive matters
- Able to manage multiple projects and deadlines at once
- Outstanding communication skills. Able to communicate clearly about the short and long-term impact of HR policy and procedures.
- Passionate about the arts and community impact
- Independent worker with a high degree of initiative; while a comfortable collaborator and team player, especially on cross-functional teams
DESIRED EXPERIENCE
- Demonstrated experience in the HR field across a range of competencies
- Experience with Paychex not required but a plus
- Experience with employee relations
- Supervisory experience preferred
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field such as Human Resources or Organizational Psychology
COMPENSATION
Annual salary is $60,000/yr. Benefits include: Health insurance at no additional cost; 401(k) with 3% employer match (eligible after 6 months of employment); Paid Time Off (PTO) structure as well as 15 federal & cultural holidays off per year; parental, medical, and bereavement leave; Hybrid in-person and remote workplace.
