Job Description

When you join Verizon

Verizon is one of the world’s leading providers of technology and communications services, transforming the way we connect across the globe. We’re a diverse network of people driven by our shared ambition to shape a better future. Here, we have the ability to learn and grow at the speed of technology, and the space to create within every role. Together, we are moving the world forward – and you can too. Dream it. Build it. Do it here.

What you’ll be doing:

The HR Communications Manager is responsible for developing and implementing effective employee life-cycle communication strategies and tactics to drive Verizon’s HR mission — to attract, retain and inspire top talent — and increase Verizon’s reputation as an employer of choice. You will serve as the Communications Business Partner to the Chief Talent & Diversity Officer, as well as partner with HR teams on initiatives related to Talent Acquisition and Talent Management, Learning and Development, Diversity-Equity-Inclusion (DE&I), and Culture and Change Management.

As an experienced and highly-creative strategist, your responsibilities will include shaping internal communications, developing social media and PR strategies, supporting executive communications and positioning leaders in thought leadership forums, and more. You must be willing to constantly innovate and seek out the best practices and the latest trends. More than anything, you must be able to be a trusted, strategic counselor to senior leaders in HR and beyond.

Most of all, you share our belief that people are our most important asset. You know the value of a great leader—and how inspiring and empowering it can be to work for one. You’re driven to help your clients be better leaders and believe in everyone’s potential to grow. You’re a great listener — people naturally approach you for help and advice. And you enjoy partnering with your clients to solve complex problems and, in the process, make us better every day.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Managing projects, including developing timelines, crafting and reviewing content, providing design guidance or support, ensuring deliverables are completed on time, etc.
  • Monitoring the external landscape to share new, innovative and interesting ways to engage Verizon employees via communication tactics and platforms.
  • Supporting Verizon’s Chief Talent & Diversity Officer and partnering with HR senior leaders to understand their priorities and develop and execute strategic and differentiated communication programs/plans that deliver on HR and Verizon’s priorities and overall strategy.
  • Monitoring social media trends to stay relevant and effective, including developments in design, applications, strategy and innovation.
  • Managing and executing internal and external communications to elevate the talent experience at Verizon, including HR processes, updates, projects and thought leadership.
  • Providing strategic guidance on messaging and effective communications as well as the development and hands-on execution of communications tactics.
  • Designing innovative and audience-centric ways of delivering engaging content across a mix of internal communications channels (i.e., executive communications, social media, Slacks, videos, articles, infographics and events).
  • Planning, designing, implementing and monitoring social media campaigns for specific HR leaders.
  • Creating, curating and managing social media content, including text, audio, visual and multimedia formats.

This role may be considered as part of the Department of Defense SkillBridge Program.

You'll need to have:

  • Communications experience.
  • Six or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Understanding of the complexities of working within a global organization and its impact on deliverables (e.g., global processes, languages, time zones, cultural differences, etc.).
  • Experience in Human Resources and Digital Communications (social media).
  • Significant experience in HR communications, with an emphasis on employee experience, employee value proposition, talent development, DE&I and other core elements of a transformational HR strategy.
  • Demonstrated success as a Communications Business Partner to a C-suite executive in a multi-national, matrixed organization, along with team management/leadership experience.
  • Deep experience in partnering with executives to build out thought leadership platforms, including managing amplification opportunities across social media and PR.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities, pivot quickly, and respond with urgency.
  • Positive approach and commitment to collaboration with shared purpose.
  • Superb critical thinking skills and the ability to take a concept from ideation and strategy to execution autonomously.
  • Demonstrated leadership in employee communications for a multi-national, matrixed organization.
  • Ability to synthesize business issues into written communications and provide high-level strategic thinking that addresses challenges and celebrates key milestones.
  • Sound business judgment and experience “connecting the dots” across topics.
  • Exceptional communication, thought leadership and presentation skills.
  • Tenacious content creation skills, constant curiosity, and a fascination for the world of technology and its broader societal impact.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence, counsel, and guide leaders as a trusted advisor.
  • Experience developing compelling communication for senior audiences and collaborating with leaders at multiple levels in varying businesses and geographies.
  • Extreme attention to detail; holds internal and external partners to the same high standards.

If Verizon and this role sound like a fit for you, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every “even better” qualification listed above.

Where you’ll be working

In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days set by your manager.
