Job Description
Position Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Director for Research and Laboratory Safety the Laboratory Safety Coordinator organizes and facilitates various RLS initiatives and administrative programs. This position supports all of RLS by managing health and safety programs to ensure compliance and a safe environment.
  • Works with the RLS team member to review accident/incident investigations, determine root cause and recommend and/or implement corrective actions.
  • Participate in reviews of reported workplace incidents and accident investigations.
  • Keep agendas and minutes for meetings and generate updates/reports based on feedback received by research community or within department.
  • Participate in the design, implementation, and maintenance of department data analysis tools. Gathers data, performs data analysis and reports on various department activities.
  • Take precise notes during team meetings, recap the directions/instructions, documents and e-mails discussed, particularly with respect to the scope and deadlines of tasks.
  • Coordinates pre-qualification of vendors.
  • Responsible for conducting and documenting routine safety inspections of field operations to ensure compliance with the safety program.
  • Participate in NYU Emergency Response program; will be required to carry a mobile device and respond to emergencies during non-business hours.
  • Reviews and reconciles invoice statements, manage associated financial budget.
  • Regular follow-up (daily or weekly, as needed) to ensure that the tasks are meeting both scope and deadline requirements.
  • Organize and schedule administrative meetings
  • Ensure the department develops and implements a systematic process to measure effectiveness, productivity, value, and efficiency of current processes.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Assist in the inventory, management, and maintenance of RLS equipment.
  • Coordinates response of crews or hazardous material response contractors during regular working hours and after-hours.
  • Answers and screen calls and e-mail from the research community.
  • Assures all RLS records are kept in accordance with City, State and Federal regulations including DEP, DEC, OSHA, EPA.
  • Coordinate the collection of RLS performance metrics and prepare reports as required.
  • Maintains database, webpage, and program records, so that they are readily accessible.
  • Report on RLS financial budget to ensure accounts are in good standing. Prepare and track budget for program operations and as needed for service agreements.
Qualifications:
Required Education
Associate's Degree Environmental Science, Biology, Engineering or a related field.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Basic understanding of balancing departmental budget. Excellent organizational, record-keeping, interpersonal, and communication skills. Proficiency in use of a personal computer and current software applications but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, EHS Management Systems. Familiar with web design a plus. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

Required Experience
3+ years Experience in a university setting, biotech, or pharmaceutical company with knowledge of EHS regulations.May substitute required education with years of experience.

Bachelor's Degree

Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate with a wide variety of personnel with a positive and helpful attitude. Excellent communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and succinctly verbally and written. Ability to take initiative and think critically and creatively about individual situations and safety department.

Additional Information:
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $68,400.00 to USD $83,600.00.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
