Job Description
The employee will function under the direction of an Extended Technical Support team lead. This position provides technical consulting and support for a variety of University departments supported by ITS and possibly spanning multiple administrative and academic departments. This position is responsible for the basic design, installation, setup, and maintenance, application of security patches, operational integrity, and support of stand-alone and networked computer systems in a PC and/or Macintosh environment. This position will also be responsible for installation and maintenance of software, hardware and license inventory tracking, basic training in the use of supported systems, administering public resource areas and explaining technical concepts to non-technical customers. Considerable interaction with University staff will require knowledge of ITS services, policies and procedure, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to connect customers with the right solutions to fully meet their IT needs. Errors may result in loss of customer/user time and/or data, substantial impact on unit image and/or legal exposure from software licensing non-compliance. Rare occasional off-hours could be required for events.

Education
A Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline or an equivalent combination of education and related experience in technical support may also serve to meet these minimum requirements.
Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and troubleshoot computer systems and network performance for operational problems and make recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Experience supporting Windows personal computers and laptops.
  • Professional support experience (typically 6 months - 1 year) using varied technology concepts relating to electronic file storage, desktop management, networked print services or other applicable technologies.
  • Physical ability to routinely move, carry and transport computer equipment up to 50 pounds.
  • Experience supporting personal mobile computing devices (smartphones, tablets, etc.)
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service and teamwork skills (including with technical peers).
  • Experience supporting printers, multi-function devices, etc.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience managing workstations using Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM) or other desktop management tools and strategies.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Linux support.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Active Directory Users and Computers and Group Policy Management Console.
  • General knowledge of the services and technologies provided by ITS and the campus IT organization and environment.
  • Experience supporting Apple computers and laptops.
