The Opportunity


As the Global Innovation Leader, you will have the opportunity to:


  • Strengthen relationships with key senior management with clients
  • Serve as mentor and provide guidance to multiple teams who are working on first of kind projects for Black & Veatch
  • Identify new trends, evaluation of emerging technologies, development of new business models, and establishing partnerships with internal and external entrepreneurs
  • Guide development and implementation of vision and strategies on multiple growth initiative projects
  • Lead project teams through the incubate and pilot phases; mentor through launch phase

Key Responsibilities


  • Build strong relationships with industry experts and both new and existing customers
  • Builds strong relationships with industry experts; strengthens contact network to support growth
  • Leads cross-business workshops and strategic planning sessions around various topics
  • Has established network and referral contacts
  • Serves as mentor and provides guidance to multiple teams who are working on first of kind projects for Black & Veatch
  • Responsible for reviewing and approving project spend
  • Is recognized as a thought leader in the external market, and plays a critical role in business development efforts for assigned growth initiatives
  • Assists in the strategic planning process
  • Provides guidance on development and presentation of proposals to clients
  • Identify and develop new strategies, business opportunities, and technologies that can lead to innovation and consequently growth within a company


Preferred Qualifications


Experience in business development and leadership, combining in-depth sales and marketing knowledge with deep operational experience, technical savvy and cross-functional communication abilities. Extensive experience driving sales, managing profit margins, managing teams, controlling costs, and maximizing profitability.


Preferred Skills:


  • Demonstrates strategic agility; sees ahead clearly, can anticipate future consequences and trends accurately, has broad knowledge and perspective, is future oriented, can articulately paint credible pictures and visions of possibilities and likelihoods
  • Demonstrates innovative forward thinking; is good at bringing the creative ideas of others to market, has good judgment about which creative ideas work and suggestions will work, has a sense about managing the creative process of others, can facilitate effective brainstorming, and can project how potential ideas may play out in the marketplace
  • Conducting IP valuations to determine the potential value of an IP asset for licensing or monetization purposes
  • Strong analytical skills; has a knack for converting insights into creative actionable recommendations
  • Strong business and financial acumen
  • Ability to evaluate and assess potential IP-related partnerships and collaborations to support technology or product development efforts
  • Extensive experience driving sales, managing profit margins, managing teams, controlling costs, and maximizing profitability
  • Strong communication skills; has an ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form and build trusted internal and external relationships
  • Is a change agent; demonstrates the ability to research, design, and build organizational support for and implementation of programs.
  • Collaborative leadership orientation; is skilled at coaching and mentoring others
  • Experience conducting due diligence on potential licensees or purchasers of IP assets


Minimum Qualifications


  • Knowledge and understanding of emerging technologies and past work with R&D teams to identify and protect novel technologies and inventions.
  • Strong project management skills to oversee IP-related initiatives. Experience in managing IP portfolios and developing IP strategies, policies and procedures.
  • Strong business acumen and knowledge of the product development lifecycle to align IP strategies with business goals.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively communicate IP concepts to non-IP stakeholders
  • Degree in law, business, engineering or a related field with past work experience focus on Intellectual Property (IP).
  • Experience developing strategies for licensing and monetizing IP assets, such as royalty-based licensing or IP sales.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams including outside consultants and partners.
