Job Description

Come join the UCLA Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences. Under the direction of the lead Information Systems Analyst and IT Manager, provide IT support for the instructional, research and administrative components of the department.


Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for a heterogeneous computing environment, which includes Linux, Mac and Windows systems.
  • Work with campus-wide organizations (ITS, CAT, Library, etc.) to meet departmental needs.
  • Set up networking, printing and remote access for departmental users. Troubleshoot hardware, software and networking issues.
  • Investigate and recommend improved hardware and software for departmental users.
  • Modify, debug, test and document database-driven web applications.
  • Install and configure operating systems and software on a broad variety of platforms.
  • Consult with users on hardware and software issues.
  • Update and maintain the department websites, custom applications (e.g. forms system) and LMS course sites (Moodle and Canvas).
  • Create and maintain user documentation.
  • Build, repair and upgrade computer hardware.


Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Content Management systems such as WordPress and Drupal, and with Course Management systems such as Canvas and Moodle.
  • Ability to perform effectively under conditions of fluctuating workflow and frequent interruptions.
  • Skill in working independently, prioritizing tasks, and following through on assignments with minimal direction.
  • Skill in organizing material and information in a systematic way to optimize efficiency and minimize duplication of effort.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Skill in analyzing information to define the problem, formulate logical conclusions, and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience with database-driven web technology (HTML, PHP, JavaScript, and MySQL).
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative, effective and efficient working relationships with faculty, researchers, staff, students, campus technical personnel, vendors and others.
  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to learn new ideas, skills, and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of the Linux, Mac and Windows operating systems.
  • Experience in building, upgrading and repairing rack-mount servers, laptops, and workstations.
  • Skill in setting priorities which accurately reflect the relative importance of job responsibilities.
  • Ability to speak, write, and comprehend English fluently.
  • Skill in working as part of a team and collaborating with colleagues.
