The Dean’s Office Finance team is responsible for providing leadership, guidance and oversight of financial operations within SDSS. In its inaugural year (2022-2023), the SDSS operates on a consolidated budget of approximately $160M. It is a basis on which SDSS is expected to grow exponentially over the coming decade as it moves toward fulfilling its long-range plan and mission.
This Financial Analyst role is ideal for a self-motivated, seasoned finance professional looking to expand their organizational impact. The successful candidate must demonstrate exceptional analytical skills and the ability to synthesize information from multiple sources to solve problems and perform analytical tasks. They must possess, or demonstrate the ability to quickly acquire, in-depth knowledge of university policies, systems, and practices necessary to perform their job duties as well as to serve as a resource to the school community. They must be a proactive problem solver and continuously identify opportunities for process improvement, propose recommendations and implement solutions. It is critical that the successful candidate is an effective communicator, able to organize and communicate complex financial information using an appropriate combination of spreadsheets, graphs and narratives. They must also demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to cultivate collaborative relationships within the school community as well the broader university.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
  • Design and perform highly complex financial analyses; Gather and synthesize data; identify trends, draw conclusions, develop solutions, present and implement recommendations, and create follow up analysis.

  • Support distributed units in the development and management of their annual budget. Design and produce routine and ad hot reports. Review and approve complex transactions.
  • Lead and support unit and organization strategy and change management initiatives.
  • Serve as subject matter expert on complex business processes, policies and systems. Assess client and business needs, and formulate recommendations to determine approach to managing and completing processes.
  • Manage compliance program for areas of responsibility, interpret internal policy and external regulations, and create and/or review complex compliance reports. Lead or participate in compliance projects.
  • Identify and resolve unique issues with substantial significance; recognize exceptions, and conduct in-depth analysis using advanced technical knowledge and experience. Recommend and develop solutions that may require policy changes or the development of new processes; maintain broader organizational and university perspective in decision making.
  • Engage in continuous critical analysis of existing systems and processes; make recommendations to achieve greater efficiencies and improve internal controls.
  • Develop complex budget and forecasting scenarios, long-range planning and analyses for financial reporting and presentations;
  • Provide training and ad hoc support to client groups. Represent organization to external partners.
To Be Successful In This Position, You Will Need
  • Advanced professional communication skills, including ability to prepare materials for and clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, client groups, and management.
  • Bachelor’s degree and six years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in business applications, such as Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Advanced knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning and financial systems; internet and computer literacy.
  • Strong project management skills and ability to contribute to or lead part of a multi-functional team.

The expected pay range for this position is $107,000 to $143,000 per annum.
Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
