The Human Resources Generalist must have broad knowledge of all facets of human resources. This role will serve as a point of contact for staff regarding all areas of human resources including recruitment, engagement, employee relations, training, benefits, HRIS. The ideal candidate for this position will possess exemplary critical-thinking skills, exceptional follow-through, is quality driven, and always strives to provide our colleges and employees with outstanding customer service and support. An ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative environment, be able to project manage their workload and processes, and adapt well to shifting priorities. The Generalist will report to the Director of Human Resources.

Position responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Support all recruitment efforts including:
  • Manage full-cycle recruitment for open positions including posting jobs, sourcing, prescreening resumes, conducting interviews, extending offers, running background checks and onboarding processes.
  • Build strong working relationships with candidates, hiring managers, vendors, and search firms.
  • Assist in the resolution of employee relation matters including discipline action and conflict resolution.
  • Document standard operating processes and create relevant workflows
  • Respond to inquiries regarding organization’s policies, procedures, and benefits.
  • Handle employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Assist with Benefits Administration and HR transactional activities and development of internal business processes.
  • Support in the development and interpretation of policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with payroll to ensure accurate processing of employee information.
  • Maintain confidential employment data, health records, and electronic data utilizing HRIS database.
  • Document various business process rules and analyze associated data, assisting the team to turn data into actionable insights.
  • Serve as a supporting role in processing tuition reimbursements, completing employee verifications, and other inquiries.
  • Provide research and support best practices on human resources knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal and state employment law and compliance requirements.
  • Coordinate and assist with organization-sponsored functions.
  • Provide management and coordination of employee programming including onboarding program, internship program, LMS, and additional training program facilitations.
  • Manage onboarding and exiting process for employees including involuntary termination support.
  • Generate and analyze reports to assist in departmental recommendations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of state and federal employment laws in a distributed workforce.
  • Demonstrated broad knowledge of the human resources field.
  • Ability to relate and communicate with all levels of employees through active listening and communication skills that engender trust and support.
  • Prior full-cycle recruiting experience in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Desire to work as a team with a results driven approach.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to manage workload and priority shifts.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work in a cross-matrixed, consultative, and collaborative environment.
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical, and organizational skills with attention to detail.

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field.

Experience:
  • HR Generalist experience is a plus.
  • Minimum two years of full-cycle recruitment experience required.
  • Proficient in MS Office, in particular MS Word and Excel.
  • Previous experience with HRIS databases (Workday preferred).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two plus years of executive level recruitment experience.
  • Two years of experience managing full lifecycle employee support initiatives.
  • Previous employment in a cross-matrixed, fast-paced environment.

Working Conditions:
  • This position is considered remote, distributed, however may be asked to come onsite in the Chicago office for support needs or travel up to 20%

Compensation & Benefits
This opportunity is budgeted at $60,000 - 70,000 base compensation. Additional compensation factors may impact total compensation.
