Our team includes backgrounds in startups with successful exits, top consulting companies, fertility, consumer lending, and venture capital.And we understand the journey.Some of us are parents, some have gone through fertility treatments – and we have all supported hundreds of others on this journey through our work at Sunfish.

The management team has had multiple successful exits and managed billions of dollars in consumer lending companies. We use predictive analytics, innovative financial tools, artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to serve our customers.

The Position: Head of Business Development (Biz Dev)

Sunfish is seeking a Head of Business Development to develop and sustain partnerships and growth. This is a strategic and execution-focused role with a small team. You will be part of the leadership team at Sunfish where key decisions shaping the company’s future are made, with a focus on operations.

You will be working in a fast-paced, early-stage, rapidly growing company where you will be relied on for your expertise, organization, and enthusiasm for an early-stage company. We are a small team so a hands-on, ‘I’ll do anything’ attitude is a must, but we expect this person to help build out a strong team. A strong analytical background is a must, as is a confident presence to represent Sunfish externally at a senior level.

The Head of Business Development is responsible for managing and expanding our partnerships, designing and launching new products, and improving our brand recognition. You will:

  • Support partnership growth and activation – working directly with fertility doctors, other businesses, benefit groups, and employer networks
  • Support end-to-end product development, testing, and refinement of fintech solutions,
  • Collaborate with our product, technical, and customer success teams
  • Improve brand recognition by collaborating with marketing
  • Own performance data, maintain a weekly dashboard of KPIs and track key metrics in our systems including our CRM
  • Coordinate general operations with product to ensure timely, quality delivery of product and reporting internally and with partners
  • Represent Sunfish at industry events (fintech, health tech, fertility) – requires substantial travel around the country, and to events on evenings and weekends

About you


  • Strong analytical background, ability to build and manage complex Excel models
  • You have at least 3-5 years of work experience, ideally some of which is in business development, partnerships, health tech or fintech, management consulting, investment banking, an early-stage startup or related fields
  • You have a consumer-first mindset, ability to iterate rapidly
  • You have scaled a project or company from start to launch; enjoy the early ‘hands-on’ phase
  • Strong execution skills, organization, communication and poise
  • Able to work independently and own projects, figuring out who to involve when necessary
  • Strong project management skills, ability to set up systems and keep the team on track
  • Comfort with financial statements, calculating ROI
  • You operate with empathy and curiosity
  • Passionate about the Sunfish mission

Additional ‘nice to have’

  • Based in Los Angeles
  • Expertise in the fertility industry
  • Biz Ops, Biz Dev, or Finance experience
  • Start-up experience
  • 2+ years of experience in management consulting (preferred), investment banking, project management or BD at a venture-backed company, or a related field
  • Educational and professional background in Business (e.g., MBA), Finance, Consumer Lending, Engineering

Logistics

Sunfish is remote, but we meet quarterly in person. Our Headquarters are in Los Angeles.

Compensation: $90K - $150K cash plus equity
