Job Description
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


EDPR is leading the energy transition, targetting to have 100% renewable energy generation by 2030 (“All green”). Between 2023-2026 we aspire to add > 4GW/year of renewable capacity, doubling its current footprint in both solar and wind. For Solar specifically, EDPR plan to install >9GW between 2023-2026.


Given the growth ambition, a well-planned Solar procurement strategy is crucial for its success, and hence we are embarking on a strategic global sourcing effort with the development of a new Global Procurement team, together with the introduction of an operating model that leverages global scale and global skill and that aims to shape a resilient supply chain supported on strong long-term partnerships with selected world class highly qualified suppliers of Solar: PV Modules, Inverters, and trackers.


The Global Procurement Solar Lead will play a key role in contribute to shaping and executing such ambitious strategy. The Global Procurement Solar Lead is expected to be mainly focuses in supporting the North America business unit but will support the Global Procurement Department leadership in any necessary global strategic initiatives across the world. The Global Procurement Solar Lead will create a sustainable competitive advantage for the company and maximize value throughout the development of a wide range of strategic relationships with the OEMs, relevant market/industry stakeholders and the internal areas of EDPR organization, at all levels including the top management.


MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES:


  • Investor Relations & ESG – Make sure procurement is aligned with EDP’s ESG guidelines & goals.
  • Risk – information on counter party risk related with Solar suppliers, new and incoming supply agreements with relevant T&Cs, and market trends & new risks
  • Contribute to develop a close network with all solar industry players and stakeholders having an impact on EDPR Solar business, including current and potential entrant suppliers (provide strategic market intelligence).
  • Contribute to the crafting and shaping of both the global and the NA procurement strategy. Provide inputs to the strategy with region-specific nuances, local market conditions, and forecasts. By remain deeply ingrained in NA BU needs is able to represent those needs in the global team and strategy.
  • Finance – CAPEX, modeling, optimization, alignment on payment methods
  • Compliance with EDPR internal approval processes and guidelines (procurement committees, formal capex approval systems, integrity due diligences, etc)
  • Recommends appropriate changes in procurement governance and policies with special aim of making procurement teams for efficient.
  • Operations & Asset Management – Return on Experience on suppliers’ performance and main issues, get support from the area for improved contract management.
  • Is a cross functional orchestrator. Establishes direction, alignment, and commitment across organization boundaries in service of EDPR's higher vision and goals. Being able to shift from rigid hierarchical structures to networked structures with flows of people, information, and resources across boundaries. Meets with Stakeholder managers to understand business priorities and translate their needs into procurement plans;
  • Ensures proper contract handover to the appropriate owner at the end of the negotiation.
  • Autonomously manage negotiations regarding purchase Solar supply agreements (MOU, Letter Agreements, Side Deals, Solar Supply/Warranty/O&M contracts, etc), involving as required other EDPR areas. As a good sense of the critical items in the contract and can easily quantify tradeoffs.
  • Drive the adoption of global standardized tools and processes (e.g. Appian procure, SAP, etc).
  • Ensure regional execution of global strategy. Support global execution when requested.
  • Business Development – Share information about solar technology evolution; regular interactions about projects’ development to define the Solar sourcing strategy.
  • Tax & Accounting – sales/use tax mitigation, duties, tariffs, INCOTERMS
  • Lead or support the execution of RFIs, RFPs/RFQs or sole sourcing negotiations to evaluate supply options and select the right supplier(s) for a given project or set of projects. Primary face to the supplier regional organization on daily negotiations and tasks.
  • M&A – Work on financial model, obtention of detailed LCOEs, interaction to identify Solar CAPEX-OPEX targets, support to help close M&A deals with any Solar related matters.
  • Cross-functional support/interaction/relationships with other EDPR areas, playing a pivotal role:
  • Technology - monitor/evaluate new solar technologies, mitigate risks, validate new suppliers through Technical Due Diligence, get assistance and validation on contract management for technical issues, provide and receive guidance on suppliers’ technical aspects and new trends.
  • Energy Assessment – Solar plant production
  • Origination – regular contact to understand Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) status or Build Transfer Agreement (BTA) negotiations and closing.
  • Construction – Supply agreement liaison, support on on-going issues during the project execution phase, Return on Experience on suppliers’ performance, get support from the area for improved contract management.
  • Legal – close interaction for support and full alignment on any binding contractual agreements, including the development of standardized processes and templates for all contracting efforts.


Direct Reports: No permanent direct reports expected. On a project-by-project basis will be required to manage associates.


Travel: Expected min 25% (Supplier factories, supplier meetings, solar farm visits, industry fairs, global team meetings, etc). Willingness to travel internationally when required.


Minimum Qualifications:


  • 5+ years of relevant experience in Solar Industry, preferably in Procurement or Commercial
  • Competency in the development of high-level Business Relationships
  • Solid experience with supply contract management, contract models and industry terms and conditions. Proven negotiations skill is a must
  • University Degree, preferably in technical and/or business financial areas
  • Experience managing large strategic equipment procurement tenders, and diverse procurement strategies
