SUMMARY:

The GIS Analyst conducts geographical research and analysis; consults with users to determine GIS needs; creates and maintains GIS data, maps, web maps, web services, scripts and programs; should have strong skills in cartographic design, analytical geography, programming, and communication

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Develops and codes programs using SQL, Python, to automate common GIS tasks and procedures.
  • Conducts geospatial research and analysis using various GIS analytical tools (i.e., spatial analyst, 3D analyst, business Analyst); analyzes results to support company decision-making.
  • Posses’ or gains knowledge of Texas Abstract land survey systems.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Responds to requests for data and GIS support from other departments.
  • Analyzes, troubleshoots, and resolves GIS application problems; communicates with internal and external technical resources to resolve end-user issues; provides guidance to users on methods for correcting reported problems.
  • Documents procedures, processes and creates tutorials and training materials
  • Ensure data quality and metadata standards are met.
  • Works toward maintaining awareness of new technologies and advances in the profession; reads professional literature; attends workshops and training sessions as appropriate.
  • Provides technical support in the use of ArcGIS products and GIS-related programs to accomplish company projects and programs
  • Familiarity with web design using JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
  • Creates, develops, and maintains all company GIS data, maps, web maps, web services, scripts and programs using GIS tools, and relational databases; should have strong skills in cartographic design, analytical geography, programming, and communication (including strong writing skills).
Requirements:

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree in geography, geoscience, computer information systems, database administration, or related field

EXPERIENCE:

  • Must have 1+ year of experience with GIS software and technologies, proficient in the use of ESRI ArcGIS and related extensions, HTML, Python, SQL, and Microsoft Office Products.

SKILLS:

Must have the following skills and/or abilities:

  • Ability to produce desired work outcomes, including quality, quantity, and timeliness.
  • Ability to multi-task in a high activity/energy professional environment that includes multiple and concurrent projects and project deadlines, and occasional interruptions and walk-in appointments.
  • Ability to focus on achieving goals, including those involving external departments, agencies, and the public.
  • Ability to plan, coordinates, and organize work; set priorities and meet critical deadlines
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Proficiency using SQL, Python, and/or R to automate common GIS tasks and procedures.
  • Ability to resolve problems in a timely, efficient, and effective manner.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware, software, and peripherals.
  • Proficiency integrating, analyzing, and evaluating data for GIS-based decision support
  • The ability to work in a team environment; contribute as a team member and treat co-workers with respect.
  • Technical proficiency in the following: ArcGIS Desktop/Pro and various extensions like 3D Analyst, Network Analyst and Spatial Analyst.
  • Ability to plan and organize work, time, and resources, and if applicable, that of subordinates.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with peers, supervisors, subordinates, and people to whom service is provided.
  • Demonstrated ability creating and customizing web maps and web applications in an enterprise GIS.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

Must have a current Texas driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to perform the following physical activity on a frequent to constant basis:

  • Sit for long periods of time.
  • Average, ordinary visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents; operate a computer or other office machinery; or.
  • Lift 10–20 lbs. of files, plans, office supplies, or similar items.
  • Walk short distances on slippery, even, and/or uneven surfaces.
  • Constantly uses fingers and hands when dialing/answering the telephone and operating a computer or other office machinery, such as a copy machine, scanner, and computer printer.
  • Ability to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information through verbal communications in person or detect objects in and around job site over the telephone.
  • Stand, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, twist, turn, or crawl.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Majority of work is performed in an office atmosphere located inside a building with no hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions.
  • May require infrequent job site visits involve performing work in outdoor weather conditions with exposure to extreme cold, heat, and noise depending upon project site.
  • May travel locally during the workday.
