DEPT: FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING
Full-Time / 8 am - 5 pm
The Financial Accountant is responsible for completing various accounting activities within the financial accounting department. The successful candidate may choose to work in the office, fully remote or a hybrid work location. This position requires a strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and the accountant should be able to apply these concepts in practice. This includes, but is not limited to tasks such as, proposing journal entries, performing account reconciliations, performing financial analysis, and researching accounting and IRS guidance. Strong Excel skills are essential.
Additional Responsibilities Include

• Grant reporting and related submission
• Prepare ad hoc reports as requested
• Able to adapt to quickly changing deadlines and informational requests from personnel outside the Finance department
• Budget to actual variance and trend analyses
• Identify process improvements and propose ideas for streamlining processes and reporting procedures
• Calculate Bad Debt/Charity reserve
• GAAP & SAP Audited Financial Statement preparation and employee benefit plan audit including preparing audit workpapers and drafting footnote disclosures
• Accounting policy and guidance research and documentation
• Ability to balance multiple tasks and deadlines independently
• Debt compliance reporting
• Financial statement preparation
• Captive insurance accounting

The successful candidate will work independently and be self-motivated to research budget to actual variances and other supporting data by contacting and using resources outside of the immediate financial reporting team. They should be motivated to continuously improve their skill set and knowledge of new GAAP pronouncements. The accountant must be able to deal with ambiguity which includes effectively working in a complex and rapidly changing environment. They should also be able to meet the challenges of unfamiliar tasks. The accountant should have excellent interpersonal skills that include excellent written and verbal communication necessary to maintain effective communication with internal and external customers at different levels within the organization ranging from staff to senior executives. The accountant should have productive work habits and strong time management skills, to make effective and efficient use of their time. The candidate must be flexible with work hours to meet reporting requirements.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related business field required.
Licensure: CPA preferred
Experience: 2+ years Accounting or Finance experience in public accounting or large organization preferred.
