About the Department

The Event Development and Production Department develops and produces NYRR events from concept all the way through execution in alignment with NYRR’s mission. The TCS New York City Marathon, United Airlines NYC Half and the RBC Brooklyn Half are just a few of the 40+ adult events and 30+ Rising New York Road Runners youth events produced by the team each year. The team leads core elements of the operations including physical site management, timing and scoring operations, volunteer management, hospitality and special events, safety and security, management of our warehouse and all race collateral, city, and state agency relationship management, and permitting.

About the Position

This position will report to the Director of Event Staffing & Training, and at events will report to the Event Manager and/or the Area Lead(s). This position is responsible for providing on-site operational support and volunteer management for NYRR marquee events.

  • New Balance Bronx 10 Mile – September
  • RBC Brooklyn Half Marathon – May
  • TCS NYC Marathon – November
  • NYRR Staten Island Half – October
  • United Airlines NYC Half – March

Available Roles

  • Signage – Signage Teammates set up signage within central locations along the course to direct patrons to medical tents, fluid stations, and more.
  • Start/Finish – Start/Finish Associates help set up and break down each event by moving heavy equipment, setting up stages and tents, and putting up signage related to the Start/Finish area.
  • Festival – Festival Associates assist with the set up & breakdown of sponsored events.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assist NYRR Event Managers and staff with the build-out of the event start, finish, course, and festival areas at marquee races.
  • Responsible for reporting NYRR rule violations, and medical emergencies at events

Requirements

  • Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and ability to follow directions.
  • Must be comfortable on your feet, outside in the elements, for the duration of the shift.
  • Must be able to follow directions and protocols to ensure that tasks flow seamlessly.
  • This is a weekend position with long hours (typically from 4am – 1pm; may vary based on event and/or position). Must have consistent availability for the races outlined in the job description.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced team-oriented environment. Must be proactive, responsible, attentive, hardworking, and professionally courteous to all runners, spectators, and park patrons.
  • Must be able to lift at least 25 pounds of equipment.
  • Flexibility to navigate between roles depending on the need for each race.
  • Ability to comprehend logistics documents to build out the event site.
