Enterprise Systems Engineer (Junior)

As a member of the Enterprise Technical Services team, a Junior Enterprise Systems Engineer will be responsible for the support, and maintenance of all related systems and infrastructure hardware and software for Empyrean.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Participate in the collaboration with the Security team for critical Incidents and remediation on infrastructure events
• Assist with installing new and/or repurpose existing servers and configure hardware peripherals, services, settings, directories, and storage in accordance with standards and operational requirements
• Participate in on-call rotation and after-hours support as required
• Assist with administration of file level restorations for files, folders, and missing content
• Assist with performing routine preventative maintenance on all hardware on a scheduled basis
• Provide assistance with data center operational support for all failed components and works with vendor’s support team for all hardware replacements, onsite and remote
• Assist with virtual machine creation, configuration, migrations, upgrades, downgrades, and restoration
• Assist with support and administration of on-premises Active Directory architecture
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned
• Assist in reviewing system and application logs, and verify completion of scheduled jobs such as server and storage related backup
• Develop/Maintain and update all relevant infrastructure documentation for all deployed systems and current topology
• Perform daily system monitoring and health checks, verify system integrity and availability of all hardware and server resources
• Adhere to Empyrean IT Service Management processes (Incident Management, Change Management, etc.)
• Participate in the collaboration with other teams, such as Security and Network teams, to ensure that server infrastructure is secure and compliant with regulations and standards

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Ability to travel up to 10%
• Experience with server imaging, implementation, installation, and support for Microsoft Windows 2012 and 2019 server platforms
• Ability to effectively prioritize workload based on urgency levels and short timelines
• Familiarity in assembly, implementing, troubleshooting, and supporting HP blade enclosures, blades, and rack mounted servers
• Ability to recognize when to escalate unresolved issues to the appropriate channels
• Ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
• Ability to adapt quickly to changes in workload demands to support the business
• Familiarity in data center environments
• Ability to work well independently and collectively in a collaborative environment
• Familiarity with Linux OS installation, configuration and support, package management, network configuration, job scheduling, etc.
• Familiarity with physical server builds including racking, stacking, cabling, and configuring
• Demonstrated experience and ability to engage senior engineering team for problem resolution
• Familiarity with monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, Zabbix, SanNav, vROPS, Skyline, and LogInsight; knowledge of SNMP and WMI technologies
• Familiarity with virtual machine creation, configuration, migration and support, network configuration, upgrades, and downgrades
• Ability to communicate system related issues and resolutions properly and effectively
• Familiarity with Active Directory administration
• Ability to stay focused on projects from inception to completion

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND/OR EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum 2-4 years of previous job experience in server build, implementation, and support
• Knowledge of different backup solutions such as Avamar, Arcserve, Backup Exec, Barracuda, Commvault, etc.
• Familiarity with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V)
• Knowledge and awareness of clustering technologies such as Windows WSFC and SQL FCI
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or combination of Associates degree and equivalent years of experience (or related area) preferred
• Experience with Dell and HP server technologies
• Knowledge of fiber channel SAN switch technologies, such as Brocade switches
• Relevant industry certifications such as Microsoft Certification (MCSE) or equivalent certification in relevant programs desired
• Knowledge of SAN and NAS related architectures such as Nimble, 3PAR and Synology
• Fundamental knowledge of networking principles and protocols such; TCP/IP, UDP and networking tools like; PING, traceroute, telnet, etc.
• Knowledge and some experience with scripting languages preferred, such as PowerShell

Hybrid Position, with a few on-site days at our Houston office
