Summary
The system engineer for electro-magnetic pump is responsible for design, analysis, and application engineering. The job includes preparation of test specifications and trade studies as well as leading technical reviews, work planning, and schedule management.Eligibility Requirements:
The location for this role is Wilmington, NC. However, remote work may be considered for highly qualified candidates.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Prepare definitions of deliverables, scopes of work, work plans, schedules, and reports covering the entire product development lifecycle.
- Lead new product design and development from conceptual through preliminary and detailed design release to internal manufacturing or external procurement, fabrication, assembly, production test, validation test as well as site installation, start-up test, and commissioning.
- Ensure deliverables are on-spec., on-budget, and on-schedule with quality.
- Ensure design meets all requirements.
- Prepare requirements for the electric power supply.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to earlier career engineers.
- Maintain change and configuration management for technical documents.
- Maintain focus on the EM Pump product development and the interfaces with other systems and external stakeholders.
- Perform cost-benefit studies.
- Gathering inputs and coordinating design, and testing for subsystem to meet its required functions,
- Promote incorporation of operational experience, lessons learned, and best practices.
- Develop and maintain technical maturation plan.
- Identify, confirm, document, and lead resolution of technical issues.
- Responsible for development of the component / system requirements and specifications.
- Coordinating within GEH of the mechanical equipment design, thermal hydraulic analysis, electromagnetic-thermal-hydraulic analysis, and stress analysis.
- Support initiatives in; LEAN, design for reliability, design to cost, etc.
- Coordinating with external and internal stakeholders,
- Champion nuclear safety culture – Ensure compliance with GEH policies, quality and corrective action program – Deliver work with integrity, safety and security, and quality.
- Responsible for:

Basic Qualifications:
- 2 years in design, development, or deployment of electro-magnetic or electro-mechanical machines for applications in the nuclear, chemical, mining, aerospace, defense, automotive, or energy industries.
- 4 years of experience working knowledge of mechanical design principles, fluid mechanics, electro-magnetics, electro-dynamics, or material science.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics from an accredited university or college.
- 1 year of experience with CAD, mathematical, structural, dynamics, and fluids modelling and analysis as well as project collaboration tools.
Eligibility Requirements:

Desired Qualifications:
- Experienced in computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulation of turbulent, incompressible flows
- Effective communication, cross- discipline and functional facilitation, and influencing skills, both verbal and written with focus on requirements, design basis document and technical presentation preparation and delivery.
- Self-starter with positive energy, bias for action, and proven track record of delivering on commitments and goals in a fast-paced environment.
- Master’s degree in engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or equivalent.
- Able and willing to take ownership and responsibility for work scoping, deliverables planning, prioritizing, scheduling, budgeting, action tracking, monitoring, corrective actions, reporting, etc.
- Experienced in design, modeling, simulation, analysis, manufacturing, and testing of induction motors with specific expertise in linear induction motors or electro-magnetic pumps,
- Continuous improvement “mindset” with an ability to identify, influence, and implement better ways to do an activity or process.
- Experience in Design of experiments (DOE)
- Experienced in electro-magnetic modelling and simulation of induction machines
- Experience with functional, performance, margin and qualification [environmental, seismic] testing methods.
- Experience using industry standards
- Experience in Manufacturing / Fabrication
- Clear thinker, detail oriented, insightful, quantitative, results oriented – Able to learn quickly and make reasoned, sound, and timely decisions.
- Experience in electrical machine controls
- Experience in magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) or plasma physics modeling and simulation.
- Inclusive team player able to work successfully in matrix environment – Executing multiple assignments and priorities.
The salary range for this position is $86-119k. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location. In addition, this position is eligible for a performance bonus.
