The Application Developer will be responsible for the analysis, design, development, and maintenance of software applications for the Pediatrics department. These applications will assist in developing technical solutions related to departmental data organization, financial data management, and reporting, and will involve the creation of a unified multi-function suite of applications that address evolving departmental needs. This position would reside within the Carver College of Medicine’s Application Services Office, working amongst a team of developers to utilize common infrastructure and best practices, while functioning as the primary developer serving the Pediatrics department and mission.
This position is eligible to participate in remote work. Remote work must be performed at a location within the state of Iowa. Successful candidates who participate in remote work must comply with requirements of the remote work program and related policies.
- Create and work with backend infrastructure and databases, both new and existing.
- Use modern development methodologies
- While serving a specific mission area, work within a team of developers across many mission areas, utilizing shared code libraries, infrastructure, and best practices.
- Develop web services and front-end frameworks
- Collaborate with other developers, stakeholders, and end-users to ensure that solutions meet the needs of the department
- Work closely with departmental staff to understand their workflows, processes, underlying data, and overall needs
- Design, develop, test, and deploy software solutions utilizing a versatile set of programming languages and technologies, with an emphasis on .NET application architecture.
Required Qualifications:
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Science or related field or equivalent combination of education and relevant application development experience.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; the ability to explain computing concepts to non-technical staff
- Minimum experience of 3-5 years for Application Developer.
- Strong experience with database technologies such as MS-SQL, MySQL, or PostgreSQL
- Experience providing customer service to technology users of varying abilities
- Strong experience with web development technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Demonstrated experience in software development, with a focus on web application and full-stack development.
- Proficient in multiple programming languages such as .NET, C#, JavaScript, Python, Java, Ruby. (Prior C# and .NET experience is preferred.)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with jQuery and JavaScript
- Experience with data analytics
- Experience with .NET technologies such as MVC architecture, .NET Framework and .NET Core.
- Experience writing complex SQL queries.
- Experience with data warehouses
- Experience with Version Control systems such as Git
- Experience with reporting tools (SQL Server Reporting Services, Crystal Reports, Business Objects, Microsoft Power BI, Tableau, etc).
- Experience researching, organizing, analyzing, and synthesizing data to support effective decision making.
