Part time Seasonal Pump-Out Boat Operator
Assistant Harbor Master
(No Benefits)
Tuesday – Thursday
8 – 10 hours a week.
May include additional 10-20 hours of Patrol as assigned by the Harbormaster
Hours are weather permitting
Position Duration: May through October
$17.50 per hour
Under the direction of the Harbor Master, is responsible for the operation of a pump-out boat. This position is a part-time, seasonal position.
Description of Duties:
Under the direction of the Harbor Master, the staff member will be responsible for the following:
- Operating a pump-out boat;
- Performs any other duties as required and/or assigned by the Harbor Master
- Must interact with other City departments, State and Federal agencies when necessary;
- May be asked to write incident reports of any circumstance worth noting;
- Responds to and assists persons/vessels in distress;
- Must read all current bulletins published by the US Coast Guard
- Assists when necessary with other harbor duties assigned by the Harbor Master;
- Maintain the pump-out boat and other necessary equipment;
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be able to work for the entire duration of the job period (May-October)
- Must speak , write and comprehend English;
- Must have at least 10 years of power boat experience and show proficiency at operating boats up to 25’ in length and 250 HP;
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge and experience in the operation of marine related equipment and vessels;
- Must be able to swim;
- Interpret data and prepare reports;
- Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public and other City departments;
- Must be in good physical condition and able to respond to emergency situations
Physical demands of the Job:
- Must be able to toss a life ring to struggling swimmers or other boaters on deck;
- Must be able to maintain balance when boat encounters choppy water conditions;
- Must be able to climb a ladder into and out of a boat;
- Must have the ability to tread water;
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds;
