Who you are: The Education Coordinator advances the mission of Zoo Atlanta through the coordination and creation of learning experiences that engage, educate, and energize program participants to action. This position reports to the Manager of School and Family Programs and supports the Supervisors and Specialist and their programs. This position coordinates program scheduling and program material management. In addition, this individual teaches day and evening programs, as needed, both at the Zoo and in the community. The Education Coordinator is an active member of the Education team and also represents Education on necessary cross-departmental teams.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Deliver high quality programming as part of all Zoo Atlanta educational experiences, both daytime and evening/overnight. Programming includes but is not limited to: Safari Day Camp, Field Trip programs, Zoo Mobiles, NightCrawlers, Events, etc.
- Maintain program schedule, including assigning shifts for programs and reserving necessary rooms and vehicles as needed
- Maintain programmatic tools and resources
- Mentor part-time and Seasonal Educators
- Must be willing to support Zoo Atlanta’s Vision, Mission, and Values statement.
- Observe and evaluate staff on program delivery and skills
- Any other miscellaneous projects assigned by Zoo Atlanta’s Education management team.
- Manage program materials, including preparation, organizing, and replenishment
- Communicate with Educators regarding schedule and program support
- Assist in content development
- Assist with Zoo sponsored events, sometimes in early morning or evening hours.
- Assist in training part-time Daytime and Evening/Weekend Educators
- Maintain positive working relationship with project partners, staff, and volunteers including but not limited to Education, Operations, and Animal Management teams, volunteer interpreters, and Docents.
- Work with the Public Programs Coordinator to maintain the Education Department’s technology including, but not limited to iPads, iPhones, gimbals, laptops, and radios.
Other Duties:
- Other duties as assigned
- Represent the Education Department on various Zoo wide teams
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
- Must maintain current animal handling status as well as all Zoo Atlanta mandatory training (i.e. customer service training)
- Extremely strong oral and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Workspace.
Experience and Skills:
Qualifications:
- Must pass background check, MVR verification, and TB test
- Willingness to regularly work a Tuesday through Saturday schedule
- Must have an appreciation for environmental education and a commitment to conservation and animal welfare
- Zoo Atlanta is open to the public 363 days out of the year, therefore, all positions at Zoo Atlanta may require employees to work some weekends, holidays, and evenings.
- Must be comfortable handling and working with animals, including snakes and other reptiles, mammals, amphibians, and invertebrates
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent oral communication skills required
- 3 years paid experience teaching children required; either in a formal or informal environment
- Ability to drive Zoo Atlanta outreach van and must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, zoology, environmental sciences, education, psychology, or related field required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to lift and carry 40 pounds
- Willingness to work outside in inclement weather
