Job Description

Job Summary

The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) -Teaching and Learning is recruiting for an experienced World Languages & Global Workforce Initiatives. Under limited supervision, this position will provide statewide leadership and coordination for instructional programs. Development and coordination of international agreements (Memoranda of Understanding) and linguistic and cultural exchanges. Dual language immersion program development, support, and assessment including, collaborating with colleges and universities to support programs for qualified dual language teachers. Support of initiatives for world language standards, resources and professional learning for teachers and instructional leaders. Also, support Federal grant management, Georgia’s Bi-Literacy Diploma Seal Program and International Skills Certificate Program. The job responsibilities include but not limited to:

Description of Duties

  • Provide leadership and coordination in the development and administration of statewide language and international education programs
  • Provide planning and consultative services to local schools
  • Development of World Language Georgia Standards of Excellence, particularly as this relates to new standards supporting world language programs for career and technical education pathways
  • Develop appropriate dual language and immersion training materials and methods
  • Create and manage a statewide advisory committee comprised of stakeholders representing the entire state
  • Coordinate the review and revision of the current Foreign Language/World Language Georgia Performance Standards
  • Identify professional needs

**Statewide travel is required. This is a remote/telework position based in Downtown Atlanta. All candidates must submit a copy of required certification document with cover letter, resume and salary history or application. *Applicants who do not submit required GaPSC certification document will not be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess one or more of the following:

  • Active involvement in professional organizations including the Foreign Language Association of Georgia
  • Five or more years’ experience in a professional education capacity in foreign language
  • Experience in writing, developing and managing grants
  • Education Specialist or higher degree
  • Experience in teaching staff development courses in foreign language
  • Educator certification in one or more world languages
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, Work, and PowerPoint) and social media platforms
  • District level language supervisory experience
  • Experience supervising professional staff
  • Leadership Certification
  • Experience in a leadership capacity related in foreign language
  • Experience in foreign language curriculum development
  • Advanced-mid or higher proficiency in one or more world languages
  • Knowledge of Georgia Professional Standards Commission teacher certification regulations

Master's degree in education or a related field from an accredited college or university AND Five years of related experience OR Bachelor's degree in education or a related field from an accredited college or university AND Seven years of related experience.
