Job Description

The Child Development Specialist provides ongoing support to home visitors with the evidence-based curriculum (Growing Great Kids) and the screening tools used within the program to measure depression and life skills. This position provides support to supervisors, managers by assisting with program data and reports. Provides guidance and supervision to direct staff. Maintains a small caseload of families when needed. Uses reflective practice techniques to assist families with child development concerns. Partners with the home visitors to offer education to the families when enrolled into the toilet training program and assist with actively engaging fathers into the activities of the home visiting program. This position collaborates with community early childhood providers. Distinguishing Characteristics: This is the third in a series of three social services program-related job classifications within the Social Services job family. This classification is responsible for coordinating, participating in and monitoring the activities and functions of a social services program or programs. This classification is distinguished from a Social Services Manager which has responsibility for an entire work unit. The Social Services Program Coordinator typically coordinates larger and more complex programs than a specialist, senior or lead staff position. This classification may require a flexible work schedule in order to meet the needs of the department.. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ages and Stages Questionnaires (ASQ-3) and Ages and Stages Questionnaires Social-Emotional Second Edition (ASQ:SE-2) Developmental Screening Tools
  • Provide education and support to families.
  • Conducting virtual visits.
  • Monitoring and recommending program expenditures.
  • Implements and monitors a quarterly tracking system to ensure staff are meeting child development policies and procedures.
  • Provides recommendations/activities to the families after scoring the developmental screenings.
  • Provides training to staff on the program curriculum, screeners, and child development.
  • Implementing the Healthy Families America model
  • Assess, educate, and assist families with children who have developmental delays.
  • Both verbal and written communication.
  • Facilitates and oversees program events.
  • Maintaining spreadsheets and databases. Ability to:
  • Non-judgmental and feeling comfortable working in the families' homes.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Social or Behavioral Sciences or a directly related field AND five (5) years' experience in social services or a directly related field, including experience coordinating a program; OR, Any combination of education and experience that has been achieved and is equivalent to the stated education and experience and required knowledge, skills, and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this job. Dependent on department or division employed, the following certifications may be required: Licenses, Registrations, Certifications, or Special Requirements: Valid Texas Driver's License. Preferred: Master's degree in Social or Behavioral Sciences or a directly related field. Experience working with pregnant women, children (0-3yrs.) and families. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of:

  • Conduct presentation to staff, families, and the community. Work Environment & Other Information Physical requirements include the ability to lift/carry up to 25 pounds occasionally, visual acuity, speech and hearing, hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer and office equipment. Subject to standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, twisting, balancing, repetitive motion, driving, client/customer contact, and squatting to perform the essential functions.   • Program Planning, development, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Implements and monitors quarterly tracking system to ensure the program has the needed child development supplies and materials.
  • Conducting education and training sessions and public speaking presentations.

  • MS Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Data base systems, internet, email, and texting. Skill in:
