The Jacobs Environmental Science, Planning and Engineering practice is looking for an Early-to Mid-Career Biologist The position is based out of Jacobs’ Bellevue, Washington office.

Your Impact:

When it comes to environmental consulting, we’re helping our clients protect our world’s natural resources. In this role you’ll support transportation, rail, water, utility, and energy sector work by assisting in environmental permitting and documentation, wetland and stream assessments, environmental monitoring during construction, biological assessments, wildlife habitat surveys, mitigation planning, and restoration/mitigation site monitoring.

As a motivated professional, you’ll be a member of our highly experienced and quickly growing Jacobs’ environmental practice in the Pacific Northwest. In this role, you’ll assist others in stream assessment, wetland delineation, wildlife studies, and/or mitigation/restoration plans, and assisting in the completion of field assessments in support of permit applications and environmental documentation. You’ll have the opportunity to work on wetland identification and delineation using the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers regional supplements, wetland rating using Ecology’s wetland rating systems, work with the Endangered Species Act (ESA) surveys, habitat analysis, and biological assessment/evaluation report preparation and work with local (city or county), state, or federal and permitting. You may travel to project locations around the Pacific Northwest for field work.

You’ll work closely with a diverse team to provide proactive and collaborative solutions for various public and private sector clients and would assist senior staff in leveraging Jacobs’ team of project managers, planners, biologists, and environmental scientists in the pursuit and delivery of opportunities in the Pacific Northwest.

Typical salary range for this position is $65,700 to $114,900 for an Intermediate level position, $81,100 to $142,000 for an Associate level and $98,700 to $172,700 for a Career level position. Salary is commensurate with experience relative to the position.

Here’s What You’ll Need:
  • BA or BS in Environmental Sciences (e.g., biology, environmental science, ecology, botany) is required
  • Familiarity with vegetation, soils, and wetland community types in the Pacific and Inland Northwest of Washington as they pertain to aquatic resources delineation and habitat assessments.
  • Strong technical writing, research, and analytical abilities with attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, team-oriented, and suited to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Knowledge of state and federal permitting programs such as the Clean Water Act and Army Corps of Engineers 404/401 wetland permitting processes
  • Data analysis, including preparing maps and figures using ArcGIS
  • Ability to work outdoors in adverse conditions across the western states; must be available for occasional travel
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as a scientist, biologist, or science-based field technician; or similar position (a Master's degree may count as 1 year of experience; internships and related technical assignments may be considered for the required experience.)

Ideally, you’ll also have:

  • Experience with Endangered Species Act (ESA) surveys
  • Completed the Washington State Department of Ecology’s How to Determine the Ordinary High Water Mark and Using the Revised Washington State Wetland Rating System (2014) in Eastern and/or Western Washington
  • Working knowledge of fish biology, fish habitat, engineering drawings, specifications, estimates, reporting, and construction
  • Knowledge and experience utilizing handheld GPS equipment and software
  • Experience monitoring construction projects for compliance with environmental permits and approvals
