Alumnae Relations & Development



Job Summary


The Assistant Director of Alumnae Professional Networks and Career Programs will be a close partner to the Director of Alumnae Professional Networks and Career Programs in developing strategies and programs that engage alums around their career and professional development, while deepening their engagement with Smith College. Through a focus on young alums of the College, the Asst. Dir. will research and identify the needs of this population and research best practices in service of career events, programming and communication. In service to young alum engagement, they will also develop strategies that build a bridge from the student to the young alum experience. Successful implementation of the Assistant Director’s work will involve their effective collaboration and communication with campus partners such as the Lazarus Center for Career Development, the Class Deans Offices, Office for Student Engagement, the GOLD alum lead within the Class Engagement and Annual Support Team, and our communications team. The Asst. Dir. will provide excellent customer service as a representative of the Office of Alumnae Relations. They will exemplify OAR values of professionalism, civility, and flexibility in daily interactions with staff, volunteers, and other members of the Smith community.


Take appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participate in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.


Essential Functions


Strategy and Program Development (40%)


Support the objectives of Alumnae Relations and Development in continued conversation with the Director of Professional Networks and Career Programs and VP of Alumnae Relations. Gather data to inform strategy/programming through surveys, interviews, research of trends in the field. Continued implementation and planning of existing or emerging young alum/student programs including but not limited to: Student/ GOLD Alum Mentoring Pilot; Young Alum/Student philanthropy initiative; Alumnae Career Storytelling Project, etc. Design new programs including, but not limited to: Young professional series, Transition support program for recent graduates, Programs exposing students to alumnae relations offerings throughout their time at Smith, starting at Orientation, etc. Ensure proper data entry/tracking for events, program attendance and engagement. Recruit event volunteers and prepare them for their role supporting both virtual and in-person programs.


Program Planning and Implementation Support (35%)


In partnership with Director, enhance and support Smith Business Network events and programs. Research, Identify and gather content for programs, websites, resource libraries, social media rooted in alum data/trends/best practices in career and professional development. Provide event planning and logistical support for Smith Business Network programs and events, both in person and virtually.


Social Media Strategy and Implementation (15%)


Focus on both young alum population and advise on strategy for the broader Smith Business Network career programming. Leverage social media for network and event promotion. Investigate new uses of social media in service of the Career and Professional Networks team’s objectives.


Other Functions


Seasonal Reunion Support (5%)

Minimum Qualifications (knowledge, Skills, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licenses)


Bachelor's degree plus 2 to 4 years of relevant experience and/or the equivalent combination of education and experience with a clear record of accomplishment. Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.


Preferred Qualifications


Experience working on higher education or in a career support field is preferred.

Must be a self-starter who has strong written/verbal communication skills and well-developed technology and data skills; a high standard of integrity; the ability to work with and motivate others; must be well organized, flexible and creative. Must possess solid interpersonal skills; the ability to work in a team-oriented environment and work well under pressure while handling multiple tasks; be successful in meeting deadlines; and be able to work independently. Must be comfortable in a fast-paced and results-driven environment. Commitment to and respect for the contributions of volunteers.

Occasional night and evening work will be required. Occasional travel will be required
