Job Description
We are in search of a dynamic and visionary Director of Project Management to lead our exceptional team as we expand our North American operations. As a key contributor to Sonder's growth and success, you will shape the future of our Project Management division. Reporting to the VP of Design, Development, and Openings, you will play a vital role in upholding our brand promise and delivering exceptional experiences. This role offers significant opportunities for both personal and professional growth, aligned with our ambitious global expansion plans. While this is a fully remote position, occasional travel within North America (up to 25%) is expected.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and guide a team of over 45 project management professionals across North America to ensure the timely, budget-conscious, and brand-aligned delivery of new Sonder properties.
Foster a world-class project management capability, fostering career development, resource management, and organizational growth to fuel Sonder's expansion.
Oversee all phases of property addition to our portfolio, including due diligence, planning, budgeting, permitting, construction, cost and schedule tracking, vendor management, staging, and project closeout.
Drive quarterly forecasting of property openings and budgets for signed deals.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including real estate, market operations, interior design, and product development, to optimize tools, processes, and communication.
Engage with external stakeholders, such as landlords, architects, and contractors, to ensure seamless project execution.
Develop strategies, OKRs, and performance metrics for yourself and your team.
Qualifications
A minimum of 15 years of professional project management experience, with at least 10 years directly responsible for development or construction project scope, schedule, and budget.
5+ years of experience leading and managing large project management teams, ideally within the hospitality industry.
Proven expertise in project controls, cost estimation, construction observation, procurement, risk management, and remote team leadership.
Track record of successful collaboration within both startup and public company environments.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to motivate and influence individuals.
Comfort in dynamic, fast-paced environments and the ability to thrive amidst change.
Innovative problem-solving skills to achieve opening goals while maintaining guest experience standards.
Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making mindset.
