Job Description
Our organization is a nonprofit public interest law firm dedicated to delivering high-quality, free civil legal services to low-income individuals across 114 counties in North and West Texas. With multiple office locations in the vibrant Dallas County, we serve a diverse and dynamic metropolitan area.
Duties And Responsibilities
As a Paralegal, you will work under the direct supervision of a licensed attorney. Your responsibilities will include:
Assisting clients in accordance with our organization's priorities under appropriate attorney supervision.
Providing paraprofessional legal services to eligible clients in civil, family, and other cases while adhering to ethical guidelines and under attorney supervision.
Participating in outreach and community legal education initiatives, building positive relationships with clients and community groups.
Assisting attorneys and advocates in representing clients and collaborating with community organizations.
Handling intake procedures, including answering and returning client calls, conducting initial screenings, and creating electronic client files.
Investigating and developing assigned cases and projects, conducting necessary interviews.
Making and following up on client referrals to additional sources of assistance.
Drafting various legal documents and maintaining organized case files.
Developing specialized skills and staying up-to-date on legal developments in assigned areas.
Providing translation assistance for clients who speak a different language.
Reporting caseload statistics and activities to supervisors regularly.
Traveling to administrative agencies and other relevant locations.
Building knowledge of relevant laws, legal skills, and procedural requirements.
Staying informed about changes in the law and issues affecting our client population.
Collaborating with social service agencies and other organizations to assist our clients.
Representing clients at hearings and following applicable advocacy guidelines.
Providing information to LANWT's Administrative Office regarding the services you provide.
Performing other duties assigned by management.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you should have:
An Associate's Degree and paralegal certification (preferred).
Proficiency in spoken and written Spanish (preferred).
Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and self-motivation.
The ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Professional and courteous interaction with individuals at all levels.
Proficiency in Microsoft products.
Independence, good judgment, and the ability to maintain client confidentiality.
Willingness to occasionally travel for work-related purposes.
An excellent attendance record.
Salary
The starting salary for this position is $36,500 per year. However, the successful candidate's salary may be higher based on their years of experience. This role is subject to state and federal wage and hour laws.
