Position Summary
The Director, Business Services Talent Management (“Director, TM”) is responsible for developing the Firm’s performance management and talent development strategy for Business Services and for the end-to-end execution of talent management functions, including the Firm’s global performance evaluation process, performance management, training and development, career-pathing, and succession planning. The Director, TA is a senior member of the Firm’s HR management team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Develop and execute a roadmap for talent development that addresses business needs across all Business Services functions.
o Identify critical skills required throughout the organization and existing talent gaps.
o Define promotion paths and succession plans for critical roles across Business Services.
· Build and deliver employee training programs that contribute to development and upskilling of Business Services talent.
o Lead training content development and capability-building of trainers.
o Identify and manage third-party content providers.
o Develop and execute comprehensive mentorship and coaching programs to foster a broader culture of learning and feedback.
· Establish a performance management program that ensures appraisal and consequence management practices are consistent and fair across all Business Services functions and drives towards Firm objectives and targets.
o Stand up comprehensive reporting and review processes.
o Coach leadership on performance management skills to effectively develop junior talent.
o Design and execute a structured program to manage low performing employees.
· Manage and develop a high-impact talent management team that consistently executes responsibilities in a high quality, efficient, and client-oriented way.
Qualifications/Position Requirements
· Deep subject matter expertise in performance management and/or training and development approaches, strategies, and best practices.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to the ability to build expertise and long-run leadership capabilities of others through training, coaching, and/or mentoring them.
· Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a variety of internal and external stakeholders clearly and effectively.
· Exceptional leadership skills in building, developing, and managing teams.
· Exceptional project and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple complex projects concurrently toward agreed timelines.
· Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to generate creative and innovative solutions to complex problems.
· Resourceful and able to build processes and systems from scratch.
· Demonstrated ability to drive accountability across various levels of an organization, including the ability to explain and hold people accountable to high performance standards.
· Ability to ensure objectivity in all evaluations and performance results.
· Exceptional emotional intelligence, including ability to have difficult and/or sensitive conversations and drive a path forward.
Education and/or Experience
· 5+ years’ experience in HR management positions and 3-5 years’ experience in leading talent management for a business considered a leader in its region or industry. Big law firm experience preferred.
· Experience in designing and leading professional trainings across multiple divisions of a large business.
· Experience in performance management (including developing and implementing a performance evaluation scheme), people development, and/or career counseling.
· Personnel management experience preferred.
· Bachelor’s degree, with degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration or related preferred. Master’s in HR, Labor Relations, Psychology or MBA also preferred.
