Mayfield Senior School of the Holy Child Jesus, a 9-12 independent Catholic girls’ school in Pasadena, California, seeks a mission-driven, creative and strategic thinker to develop and manage a broad range of marketing and communications activities related to the strategic direction and positioning of the school, and who can deliver clear, cohesive and consistent messaging.
Reporting directly to the Head of School and serving as an integral member of the School Leadership Team, the Director of Strategic Marketing and Communications should be knowledgeable about best practices and trends in data-driven marketing, brand management and public relations. The ideal candidate must be skilled at developing creative and compelling messaging and possess the ability to engage effectively to inform all members of the Mayfield Senior School community as well as prospective families and stakeholders. Mayfield Senior School seeks a candidate who will contribute to a culture that inspires staff and colleagues with a sense of purpose, innovation, energy, productivity, accountability, collaboration and professional growth.
Immersed in all aspects of school life, the Director of Strategic Marketing and Communications will be engaged in all activities including academics, admissions, advancement, athletics and arts to build and manage a comprehensive communications strategy that aligns messaging across numerous channels and platforms.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Write and edit key communications from the Head of School, Board Chair, and other key personnel.
- Translate school strategy into a marketing plan with tactics to advance the school’s mission, drive enrollment and fundraising, and build community.
- Work closely with the Head of School and school leaders to enhance the school’s appeal to a widening range of prospective, families, faculty, staff, alumnae, parents and friends.
- Shape and maintain the strategic and creative direction of the school’s website and lead a rebranding initiative.
- Oversee the planning, content and production of all marketing and collateral materials, publications, invitations and advertisements to ensure alignment of the school’s core messages and brand image across all channels.
- Direct and manage members of the Marketing and Communications staff and facilitate the work of the Board of Trustees’ Communications and Marketing Committee.
- Create and direct a comprehensive marketing campaign that increases the school’s visibility and competitive positioning, and enhances the public’s perception of the school.
- All other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
- Manage relationships with third-party advertising, marketing and public relations agencies, consultants and designers.
- Cultivate and maintain positive ongoing relationships between Mayfield Senior School and the media as well as other key community organizations.
- Lead all marketing efforts and manage and elevate the school’s brand through strategic planning, market insight, trend analysis, data-driven strategies and feedback from constituencies.
- Monitor industry trends in communications and marketing, particularly with an eye on digital tactics as well as the independent school market, and make recommendations for action.
- Develop and execute a communications plan with messaging that reflects the school’s mission and core values.
- Provide quality control for all communications while ensuring that graphic and editorial standards for brand, identity and logo are maintained.
- Design, create, and implement a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy that incorporates all Mayfield audiences and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the Head of School to manage crisis communications as needed.

- Seven or more years’ experience in a progressively responsible professional marketing/communications role, preferably in an educational or non-profit setting.
- Appreciation for the mission of Mayfield Senior School along with a commitment to Catholic education, Holy Child values, global awareness and social responsibility.
- Proven expertise in brand strategy, marketing communications, data-analytics, project management and team leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute both at a strategic and operational level.
- Exceptional writing, editing and oral communication skills and proficiency in communicating and engaging effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Journalism, Advertising, Communications or related field.
- Ability to manage complex projects in a fast-paced organization with multiple stakeholders.
Salary
The annual salary range for this position is $130 – $150,000. Relocation assistance, if needed, is negotiable. A comprehensive benefits package will be provided.

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
